I live in Amish country and they charge big bucks for their quilts, and some of them are machine quilted!
I've seen Queen size for $600 and there is no embroidery on them, just pieced.
I do craft shows and the rule of thumb is keep track of all your supplies - then double it. There is no way you can charge enough for your time.
It also depends on where you are. For instance if a craft show is in a high end town you can get more for your things. It is a hard thing to decide sometimes. Good luck!

Thank you all very much for you help. It will be machine sewn except for the little section to finish up the binding. Not many embroidered designs, just want to do up one or 2 blocks to make it extra special for this little guy. I am still new to this, this will be the 4th quilt that I have done so definitely not an expert. I popped over to etsy.com and looked up quilts and they had a wide range of quilts. I decided that since I am still not an "expert" and still learning that I would offer to do it for $150.00 (I have left over material and got it on sale) and will include a matching pillowcase for $10.00 .... I figure this is low but this is also for a fellow military member so it's a way of helping out. All in all I think I might maybe spend a total of $20 on supplies for this quilt, not sure about my time yet. I'll have to keep track of it this go around. The other 3 quilts I did was for family so I didn't keep track of anything. I'll know better after this one.

Again, thank you all so much. I deeply appreciate all your help.

Hugs!
Sherry

Just wanted to add to my post above. When I am adding up my expenses I always count them at the full price, even if I used a coupon or it was on sale. That way, I get a little for my time.

I put designs depicting Beatles songs on a duvet cover, no quilting, and charged $5 per design. I got $95! It was a challenge but I learned alot about placement as I had to get down into the corners of the stitched up duvet. I do some quilting for myself, still not good enough to dare do it for anyone else, but are you talking about hand quilting, machine quilting, long arm? All that makes a difference. Good luck! Linda

This is a question I always ask myself. First you'll never get what your time is worth so don't charge for it (my experience) So if you take what it costs to make it (all your supplies) then double it you should be pretty close. Now if you are in an area where quilts are at a premium you can always charge more. I usually can get about $250 for my larger quilts and they are quite pretty if I do say so myself. Good luck

Hi, I've charge a lady R9000.00 for two single quilts. But there where a lot of embroidery on. It took me 4 months to complete. I don't know how much it is in Australian dollars. Love Marie

Hi Lawmedassistant,

It depends on how much time you are going to spend on it. I've made a couple of quilts for Amy's friends and I've charged $400.00 Australian. They were Queen size quilts and all patchwork - no embroidery on them. If I had put embroidery on it I'd charge more. It also depends on how experienced you are. What do think is a fair price per hour - because it's really the time you take that counts? I can take up to 3 months or more to make a quilt - but that's not doing it every day of course, so sometimes it's best to make it on a per hour basis. How much is your time worth, that's the question? Good luck and I'm sure you'll come up with something that will suit the purchaser and yourself. Love and blessings Chris
