I am thinking of purchasing a used Janome E300 from Craig's List for $300. Does that sound like a good price? What are the drawbacks on this machine? Is it slow?

Sounds like a real steal. I would surely go for it if I were you. Let us know what you decide. *4U ><>

misquared, you've been given some really good advise here. I have the Janome 350E, it's basically the same machine, and a very good machine it is too, but please be careful if buying secondhand, why are they selling??? Check it out completely. Is your dealer willing to give you lessons if you haven't bought the machine from them? Good luck with whatever you choose sweetie, hugs and a flower.

I don't have the machine, but make sure you see all records from the owner... so that you know for sure that she kept up on the servicing, etc. ;-) Sounds like s tremendous deal! ;-)

Hi Marquared'I have a janome e300love it.Paid a lot more for it .works like a charm. I also have a brother pe 150 it sets. use my janome all the time.Unlike Marjialexa I did't have a very good dealer. He sold me the machine sent me out the door .when i would go back and ask him a question he would look at me like i was dumb. I read the book over and over and tought my self how to use it .good luck it is a good machine.Just make sure it will work for what you want.

Misquared, I never knew there were so many Craig's Lists! I went to look for the machine, I don't know which list you're looking at! I'm confused! Marji

Yes, Craig's List is now international; there's one for just about everywhere!

Hi, welcome to our 'Cute Family'!! I have the Janome 300E, and as for the machine I think it's great!! It has the capability of 4x4 or 5x7 hoops, and that 5x7 means you get a 5x7 sewing field, too. On some machines you can get a larger hoop, but if your sewing field is only 4x4 you are still limited. I don't know what your embroidery experience is, but I think the 300E is plenty fast enough. It is not a commercial machine, but it has lots of good features. You have a threader, which is a godsend for old eyes. Unfortunately, what it does not have is a bobbin sensor. You have to make sure you have enough thread in your bobbin, or like me, will be sewing away like mad with no bobbin thread! You take designs from your computer to your machine with a flash card like your camera takes. You will need to purchase the card, and the Lexar doohickey to put it into the machine, if the machine doesn't come with one. Also, you will need a Zio to connect to your computer, unless you have a laptop that is set up to read/write flash cards. The machine has quite a few built in designs, make sure you are getting the manual, and the color printouts of the designs with the machine. The led touch screen is black & white, so you won't see the design colors on the machine. As for the machine itself, I absolutely love it!!! Now, for the downside. I have never bought anything this expensive from the internet. That's a good price for the machine, as long as it's in good condition. I would want to know the person using it, because poor usage can result in things like the bobbin case having a burr on it, which will cost you $ to replace. Also, was it taken care of, oiled, cleaned, etc.? And, if you purchase this machine, who is the dealer who will service it for you? Do you have a dealer nearby that takes care of Janome machines? I guess for myself, since I have the best dealer in the world, I would never purchase a machine elsewhere. My dealer offers me free lessons, in both the operation of my machine & my Janome Digitizer Pro software, free cleanings, great service when I mess something up, on and on. Perhaps others here have done online purchasing of machines, and will have good things to say. I would never hesitate to purchase the Janome 300E again, but I'd sure want to know who the previous owner was!! Best of luck to you. Marji

This is what I needed to know. Thanks for taking the time to be so thorough. It's a local purchase, so I can go and try it out before I purchase it. Thanks so much!
