Hi Alice.. wish you all the best :-)
I have 4 kids and 2 are teens, my George is 7 and my Alice is 5.
I work part time.. well 2 full night shifts a week
10.30 pm to 6.30 am on a monday and thursday night
this gives me a garenteed wage each week.
I also run my embroidery/ vinyl business from home and would love for this to be my full time job. but its not a garenteed income for me.. Although oct through to January I am so busy that I have 4 machines running.. summer time is quiet for me and a chance to catch up.. but what I have achieved with my home business is that I am now in good profit with a lot of stock paid for behind me.. so im in front if that makes sense..I am slowly building my items up and expanding all the time. I try new things some work and some dont.. always lessons learned for me but I enjoy every minute of it.. so please dont give up.. I believe its about riding the storm through at the moment.. and not so much to do with designs or items or anything..
I seem to be shipping lots to Australia at the moment, which is hard because the postage is nearly as much as the item I am selling.. madness
Big hugs from London - Maria xx
So sorry to hear this bit of news. The economy everywhere seems to be in jeopardy. Hopefully you'll be among the employed soon. I think they're always looking for nurses. Good Luck!
Hugs Karen
Alice, I am sure you will find a job! I am retired in dominican Republic the check is ok to live a decent life in this country, but not in USA, now that my DH went to heaven, I am thinking to go back to states, I will have to look for a job too, I am a teacher but i do not know if I am ready to go bck to teaching, I have been thinking find a job in a craft store, Jo Ann Fabric, or Michel's. I like Jo Ann because since I used to go almost everyday I know where eveything is. have you seek in a craft store near you?
Read through all the comments - it's a worlwide crisis - here in South Africa we have the same problem. Good luck and hope you find something soon.
You have so many cuties with such good advice. You can't go wrong with friends like that. When one door closes God really does have a way of opening another.
Alice, things will be fine for you!! Many that are out of work for a long time keep looking for the same type of job that perhaps is not a high demand for in today's economy. Nurses and CDL truck drivers are always at the top of the list of employables, when I look at the want ads! You are lucky to be in a medical profession! Cheer up, and search for a less stressful position than you had before. As you said, it may do you a lot of good to be out in the working atmosphere again. Working at home, we seem to have a tendency to dwell more on our problems, than when working for someone else.
May the Lord give you an uplifted heart and a feeling of peace, as you seek a new job!
Angel
I have said it before, I will say it again, you really are an angel. Hugs and thanks.
So sorry to hear that. I wish you the best in getting a job you enjoy. Heres a hug to get you on your way. ;)
Diane
I am not sure how things are there, but here if you can work in childcare there are always positions open. Might have to do some training the pay isnt always the highest, but, there are other rewards, if you like kids. Good luch, will be praying for you.
A few days back, a very nice member of Cute wrote a quote, which seems very relevant now: Worrying won't take away tomorrow's troubles, but will take away today's peace. (Yes, I know who posted it). :) I do hope you don't have too much trouble.
Two and a half years ago, my husband, the sole breadwinner of the family, had to take a medical leave of absence after a series of strokes. We waited two years, without a dime of income, for his disability to go through. Now our insurance is terminating, so I have to go shopping for health insurance. I wish I could go back to work to at least get insurance benefits, but my husband now has advanced Alzheimer's to go with his other issues, so I have to stay home and take care of him.
Life has a way of throwing curve balls at us, and helps us end up in a place that we never imagined that we would be. But sometimes we come out stronger than before. I wish, for you, a positive experience with job seeking, and hope that it is better than you had hoped for. Hang in there.
My goodness, I will stop feeling sorry for myself immediately. I do know that there are others in far worse situations than me. I have no idea how people cope with no income, I can't even imagine what that would be like. I have been in a position with very little income but never none. I am really sorry to hear about your husband, Alzheimer's is very cruel, especially for loved ones. I wish you all the best also.
Oh my! I lost my job shortly after 911, but I had a few odd jobs afterwards. Than things got tighter, but my husbands business is supporting us. So now I am a go-for-this, go-for-that. I feel for those in oyur situation, with nothing coming in! I hope things come around for you! So glad you have found strength in your situation, so many people spend to much time wallowing in destructive self pity. Hang in there justonlyme, God has plans for you, sometimes he's a bit slow in showing us what they are, but he does provide in the end.
Losing your income really does change your outlook on life. Paring down and figuring out the "needs" from the "wants" is a very eye-opening experience. When it comes down to it, the "needs" are smaller than we think. Next time you sit down to pay bills, look at each one and consider if you could or would be willing to live with. Had I known that this was going to happen, we would have pared down a long time ago. Then there would be a lot more now. It isn't hard to live on less, once you get used to the idea...
Good luck Alice .I am sure you will find a job that will siute you Are you going back to nursing? love Sandra
Good luck in your search - God be with you and may you find fulfillment in whatever you do.
Hugs
Elizabeth
Oh Alice - so sorry to hear about this. I hope something comes your way soon. My daughter who was retrenched a month ago has had no luck so far. Things are not easy out there. Good luck my dear friend.
Yes Sarah, not really where I wanted to be at the moment, but business is slow for everyone and when small businesses are not doing well then I have no work because they have no money for embroidery, But I will persevere, it probably won't hurt me to get out of the house a bit anyway.
Wishing you the best of luck. You have good skills in nursing so find one that will work for you and something you can cope with.
Thank you, I will be making sure it is something I can cope with, I don't want to end up in the same state I was in 2 years ago.
You are lucky to be in a profession that is always in need.Think positive and I know you will be fine.
Thank you, you right, I am lucky, I don't know how I would be at the moment if I did not have my nursing background.
Never mind Alice I know something will turn up. My dear friend Sue is a nurse (working casual) down in Sydney and she said they are crying out for registered nurses. Just make sure you take one that is suitable to YOUR needs. You have the upper hand in that the hospital wants YOU!
Good luck with the job hunting. Love and blessings Chris
YOU WILL DO JUST FINE I AM TRUSTING GOD FOR YOU HUGS CAROLYN
Good luck with your job search. I have been out of work for the past 15 months. Only in the last month have I really started getting calls from all the resumes I have sent out. I did not think it would take this long as I do have a degree and have been in the accounting/bookkeeping game for a long time. Hopefully one of the interviews I have had in the past few days will pan out. On the positive side it has given me lots of time to sew and collect embroidery designs. I call that my silver lining.
I really hope you get something soon, you have me worried now. I hope it does not take 15 months for me to get a job.
Nurses are always in demand. You will be fine as Carolyn says. Will you keep your embroidery site? just don't spread yourself too thin.
My husband was laid off over 4 months ago, as were many Naval contractors in our state. He is still looking for a job, and unfortunately all the ones he has interviewed for all depend on the government and their budget choices and votes. He has even tried local hospital and companies and all are doing the same thing...waiting on what happens with the government. Sad. I'll pray for you to be luckier than he has been. With God all things are possible.
I am sorry to hear about your husband, I hope he finds work soon, at least my husband is still working and I should not have to much trouble finding something as there is a world wide shortage of registered nurses. I am just not looking forward to the process. selection criteria, interviews, stupid questions etc....
I tend to agree with you - it's not the work - it's the getting it!
hugs
Elizabeth
With this economy worldwide you will not be the only one. Good luck in your job search. I know you have a lot to offer. And a steady paycheck is nice.
