Another question from me. Not a sewing/embroidery one. I have a 10 yr old Gordon setter and a new puppy. My older dog hates the new one. How do I get them together without the puppy <more>

Thanks for all the answers so far. I lost one dog, Bear, in Sep. She was 18. Chewy is now 10 and doesn't seem to be open to the puppy at all. Marble is 10 wks old and learning fast. I do keep them seperated since Chewy growls and lunges at Marble. I don't think Chewy feels slighted since he is with me 24/7. Maybe when Marble is a little bigger in size things will be better.

You didn't say how long you have had the pup, but it is a bit like a new baby turning up for an only child. Take them out for short walks together make sure you let the pup know that the older dog is very special and watch that he doesn't go any where near the older dogs food or space for a while be very patient and tell the older dog often what a good boy he is, especially when he isn't growling at him. I hope you don't go to work, but if you do never leave them in the same place together, be patient and very calm about it all and it will work in the end I assure you. It takes time so good luck. The puppy probably gets on the older dogs nerves, he is an interloper. I imagine there is jealousy also. Am no trainer, but have had dogs in long ago & had to introduce a new one slowly 'till older finally accepted

Were the two dogs introduced outside of the home? How old is the puppy? Male/Female?

Chewy is 10 and acts 4/neutered male. Marble is 10 wks/female. Chewy came up to Canada from Calif. with me. We now live on a small farm so they have acres to run and play.

I'm not a trainer, but my daughter knows some. I will see her next week and make a point of asking her and then look up this post again to give you her answer if you haven't gotten professional advice before then. One thing she said was to make sure that the dogs know who is in charge, you...they will take their lead from you, so if you don't allow the older dog to "get away" with bad behavior, it will help stop it. Good luck in the mean time...
