Maybe my question fits with your question... What is it about "Sugar Skulls?" I don't get it. I find them repulsive, but some people really like them. Am I missing some connection here or something?

i think they have something to do with the Mexican celebration The day of the dead. When they celebrate those who have gone on with gifts and these sugar skulls. Different cultures have their own customs.

I loved reading all the things that everyone dislikes and some of them are so funny and cute....
I have only been collecting for a year and I have thousands of designs but I hate having to convert a design into my format.....so my biggest hate is a pretty design not in my format.....I know, I have Ambassador, but I still hate it. It has to almost take my breath away for me to dl in a different format...

What an interesting question. Hadn't really thought about it, but I quess there isn't much I don't like. There are some things I'm not fussy about, but I'll do them for my grandkids. Never heard of the prims, went and had a look - I'm not struck on them, but I might d/l a freebie for use for someone else.
I dislike mice, but I do like cute pictures of them - they don't make me think of the real thing.
I am petrified of ferrets, though. Found that out when my son got one for his girlfriend quite a few yrs. ago and we ended up having to have it at our place and it got out! - you think having a mouse run around is bad, just imagine - one of these critters when they get loose and you're by yourself at the moment (son took girlfriend home and they must not have closed the cage properly) and you are relaxing laying back on the bed reading a book and next thing you know something is trying to get up on the bed (bedspread hangs couple inches off floor),but is coming up under the bedspread and you try to keep it down - it keeps trying - you phone son's girlf. house - not there yet - ask please have him come straight home - her father laughs and says what's the problem, is there a mouse and you're up on a chair??!!!
However, if he wanted one put on something I would.

Interesting question. No when I see a design I immediately like or dislike it. Nothing in particular. But I do have favorites like flowers, realistic animals etc. I also have favorite digitizers like Ace Point, Artistic Embroidery, BFC, Emblibrary etc. And also color plays a big role - but at least one can change that to your liking.

I don't like the Rosie designs. I just don't get the fasination some have for her. I will download them if they are free but would only stitch one out if someome wanted me to for them. I don't like the really cartoony/clipart designs either. Mostly the older style clipart ones. I don't even bother downloading them if they are free. Otherwise, I have a huge collection of most everything else - clowns (though I don't buy them), angels, naughty :), creapy crawlies and 4 legged critters etc. Don't think I'd ever stitch a realistic spider or bug out on anything. I had them but I do have some in my free collection.

by beeboomer 02 Aug 2011

This is a great question! I find myself agreeing with most of the answers. I do not like cutesy cartoony big-eyed heavy fill embroidery. Babies with pacifiers, ick! Many of the older designs in DBS are awful IMOl. (Naughty santa, a barbq set that is real cartoony. Redwork rag dolls!) I wish he would clear those out.

I do like some redwork if it is decorative rather than an enormous scene. Floral redwork could look nice tone on tone. A lot of people don't like the prim designs, but there are some I do like, if they are stars, or Christmas trees, or hearts and berry wreaths or something like that. Heartstrings Embroidery has some nice ones.

by sewfrenzie 02 Aug 2011

Great Question! Not so much a desin as it is a type of material I won't embroidery on. I have given up on knits like t-shirt etc type material. All I succeed in doing is making a mess of the material or my machine! FSL makes me nervious enough that I haven't try it yet becasue my machine just doesn't sound good when I work a dense design. I have had problems with dense designs in the past so thats why I haven't tried it yet, lol!

airyfairy by airyfairy 02 Aug 2011

This is such a shame as it is so rewarding sewing on t shirts. It sounds as if your machine is the trouble and not you. Try again and do a design with not too many stitches - about 10,000. Just an idea.

jofrog2000 by jofrog2000 02 Aug 2011

For T's you need an iron-on mesh stabilizer. Hoop some tear away or cut away stabilizer, spray some sticky stuff like Kk2000 and stick the t onto the stabilizeer -NOT hooping. Pin down to the stabilizer outside the pattern area, and it works great.

Wonderful question Bev. Amazing how many people do not like clowns (me included). I am not keen on stick people, redwork but my very worst and I will be shouted down for this - is anything to do with toilet paper, from cellophane covers to embroidering on the paper itself. I just think it is tacky. Thank goodness we are all different. *4U all. Sarah.

I especially dislike the porn, Zodiac and goth stuff like skulls, etc. Having said that, I have bought some designs from Urban Threads and I couldn't resist the French toast design freebie they had lately. I had to google them Bev, Like Chris I had no idea what a prim annie was, if the site I found is what you are talking about then I have to agree with you. Not very attractive. Of course I don't think much about what I like or dislike I try to digitise what others might want. I did a spider for Halloween a couple of years ago and I nearly digitized the whole thing with my eyes shut. I really hate spiders. But my husband loved the design so I put it on a t-shirt for him. but I couldn't hug him when he was wearing it.

19430
by marcellelewis 01 Aug 2011

I haven't seem the prim annies. Where are they?

I don't care for country, sunbonnet, redwork and sampler type designs.

At first I was unsure about Urban Threads but they are growing on me now. I particularly like the 'steam punk' designs. They remind me of '20,000 Leagues Under the Sea' and all that science fiction stuff. Much of it is now part of our life today like going to the moon.

I am one that likes cute clowns. I have one from Zundt that was great for my 3 grandsons.

I would never stitch any of the naughty designs. I worry about all the naughty stuff everywhere and I certainly don't want it to invade my precious embroidery hobby.

I love this discussion. Bev, this is a great post and gives us a lot to think about. Never a dull moment at cute.

I don't care to stitch witches.

marcellelewis by marcellelewis 02 Aug 2011

I have some witches that I really like. Halloween was so much fun for me too when my son was small. I always decorated with an angel hair spider web in the top corner by the front door. It had a big fold out black spider in it. (I hate spiders but he was great) Always had a big jack-o-lantern too. My house was a favorite for all the children to visit. I had to have huge bowls of candy. One year when my son was 4 1/2 my husband asked a friend to bring me a pumpkin from over near Tupelo where they had a huge patch each year. When it arrived it was tremendous. That night it kept disappearing from our porch and returning. One time it did not return and the next morning on the way to the Baptist Church Kindergarten there was our pumpkin sitting on the center gas pump at the gas station in town. He was flanked by two other large pumpkins but he was by far the biggest. My son wanted me to stop and get it. My way out of that was to tell him that our pumpkin had a place of honor there so everyone could see and enjoy him.

My favorite witches are at this link. Threads of Time is the digitizer. I think I like Kolindra the best.

O most definitely I hate hate mice and rats. Noooo way will I embroider one. This is a true story one night getting ready for bed my husband saw a mouse in the closet. I told him there was no way I would sleep in our bed. I told him the only way I would sleep in our bed is if the most could not get in. Low and behold we set up a tent that had a build in bottom on top of our California King size bed. The I crawled in with a flashlight and then he crawled in with the alarm clock. We watched TV through the screen and then fell asleep. Now this we did every night about 8:00pm since he had to get up at 4am to get to work, for at least a month. We don't know where the mouse went. NOOOOOOO mice.

Cute story, Cindy! Kinda reminds me of when my mom had a mouse in her bedroom. Like you, she is DEATHLY afraid of them! During a HOT summer night, when she only had a sheet covering her, she felt something...looked down (the big mercury light outside gave light to the room), and there was the mouse, running UP her body, across the sheet she had over her! I think that was the night she called my Dad home from work! :)
