If the redwork is going in a quilt, I use a cutaway with a white batting and the redwork being done on what fabric. The cutaway does not show with the white batting being used. If on teatowels, I use a wash away. Hope this helps.

Although no one seems to mention using it, I use Sulky heat away stabilizer on my non-washable fabrics. It is heat sensitive plastic film that will disapper when ironed. I use this with my redwork, too. This stabilizer is light weight like the wash away.

When I am doing redwork I use a light weight wash away stabilizer. Mainly because I want my redwork to be soft if it's going in a quilt or a pillow.
