finger press again. Open it up, find the intersection and put a piece of tape and DRAW the cross with a pencil.

I don't trust marking pens or chalks...unless it's white chalk. You can also add tape at the extreme edges to help you hoop it straight.

Good idea, Shirlene. I do this too, though I usually use an iron and press both ways. Its firm enough to still see as you hoop the item that way and I don't usually need any markers. I'm currently doing a set of placemats and that's how I'm centering the design on each one.

That is what I do too. Although I must admit that I've used the water soluble pens. Lucky me so far never had a problem with the removal of the ink afterwards. But I like the idea of the chalk and the tape and is definitely going to give it a try. Thanks for sharing.

This is a great way to find center of fabric for hooping. This is what I was taught when I got my first embroidery machine

I have always done this but I also use a purple marker to mark the center. You can buy this marker at you quilting supply store, Joann's, Hobby Lobby & I'm not to sure about Wal-Mart. This marker disappears with water or if left to air it will also disappear. Most of the time this dot is under my embroidery design. I have used this marker to make quilting lines on the top of my quilt but you have to get the job done pretty fast as the lines will disappear right before your eyes.

Been doing this instead of measuring and sometimes I take a length of whatever is laying around (ribbon, thread, cloth ruler ...) and fold that in half.

Great tip, Shirlene!! I think the key here is using the tape and marking the cross on it in the middle of the design! Why didn't I think of that!!!! Thanks bunches, Laua*

I will mark Tee-shirts by doing the same folding but I press lightly with an iron to form the light creases then line these up with the alignment notches on my hoops.....before I do a stitch down....
