First I never would trust that one. Second, no way I want my personal info on a computer that doesn't belong to me. NO WAY! DVDs are too cheap and work great. I make 3 copies. One for my files next to the computer and one for the van. Then one for the Travel Trailer. I figure I have a chance of keeping one safe that way.
Also interest to know what they say.

Contact Caronite; then let us know the end result! I, too, have Carbonite, and would like to know their explanation as to why EVERYTHING was NOT backed up! Thanks!

They said it wasn't supposed to backup everything

If you look at the fine print from Carbonite it says it doesn't back up everything. I did not see it before subscribing to it. Since you are using Carbonite you need to back up your entire hard drive to an external drive of some kind. Don't rely on the usb drives because they often fail. I got a 2 Terrabyte drive at Best Buy for a little over $100 and it is great.

I tried Carbonite at one point and found that it does not backup everything on the computer. Mine had been backing up for 3 weeks when my computer crashed. Only a very few files were backed up. At that rate it would have taken a couple of years for it to do the initial backup of just my data files. I won't ever rely on Carbonite.

I now use Acronis (recommended by Best Buy). It is a backup program that 'clones' your hard drive so you get everything including program files.

I put a link to try Acronis on my 'Embroidery Websites' Listing. We have a lot of time and money invested in our embroidery files so we need to have a reliable backup for them.

Good luck recovering your files.

I feel bad for you. I know how I felt when one of my flash drives would do nothing, and no one could get the emb designs for me, i just lost all my alphabets! Now I use Allway Sinc and back up each week. I would call the company & let them know what happened. They may even be able to help you. Hugs, Judy

I am so sorry this happened to you. I would also like to encourage you to use a file recovery software...

As Marjialexa suggested, try contacting Carbonite this should not have happened.

I was backing up through Norton and one day realized that the program would stop at a certain point. My Designer Gallery Studio Plus occasionally corrupts a folder that is impossible to delete and the back up would hang up at that point. Haven't trusted a back up program since. I back them up myself by moving the folders. A pain but I can see if I have everything.

Depending on what happened to your computer your hard drive may still hold the data. I have taken all my old hard drives and put them into a piece of equipment that turns it into an external drive via a usb cable. It comes up in the My Computer tab as an external drive just like a flash drive and I am able to pull my data off of the old drives. I found files that I forgot I even had. This is not a technical piece of equipment nor very expensive and any computer store will have these or be able to help you see if you can recover any data that was on the drive. You may want to give this a try. To get a little technical, the only thing that typically destroys a hard drive is a head crash. That used to happpen alot but is very rare now with newer technology. Most data is still on a hard drive when a computer no longer works. If you would like more information please send me a PM and I will give you whatever help I can.

This is a program that you can recover your own files. Have talked to a couple people that have used it and they said it was cheaper than sending it off to the professionals.

Did you try calling Carbonite and telling them about the problem, getting help right from the source? Perhaps the files you had were corrupted somehow, and maybe that was why they couldn't be 'saved'? If you paid for the service, the service should certainly be able to help you. Best of luck, hope you can recover your designs! Hugs, Marji

Yikes! I'd try taking it to a pro. Sometimes they can get back what we can't. Unless of course you ARE a pro. I'm really sorry to hear this....good luck.;)
