I tried out some freebies, well with little success, I bought a bookmark design online and there was a tremendous difference in the stitching out, don't know what I'm doing different, but I think I will be sticking to bought designs for now at least, until I get better at this. The sun hat I started stitching out, lets say my daughter will be using it on the farm but not in public...LOL!

Thank you cuties, I always do a test before I work it on the project, I did change the size to be smaller to fit the brim of the hat and I think that may have been the trouble. I'm still learning the ropes and I still have a lot to learn, MANY THANKS to all the CUTIES!!!!

There are plenty of good sites with good free designs. They are intended to try before you buy. As the others have said, test stitch when in doubt about the digitizer. Beware of sites that seem to good to be true as you can download a virus. OregonPatchworks, and bunnycup are good places to get some nice free designs as well designs to buy. Check the freebies page on this site for links to many others. Most of us have accumulated more free designs than we will ever use and bought many as well. Welcome to the "Cute" family.

There are a lot of free designs out there if you google for free emb designs you can find them. One old tried but true thing is to test stitch first before putting on the item you want it on. Believe me I have had a lot of luck doing this one thing. Also this helps if you don't like some of the colors you can change before you stitch out on your project.

There are heap of sites with single designs. The freebies should stitch out well even if they are free. I would contact the website and let them know you have a problem, if you get a polite and helpful answer then you know that you will get good service if you purchase the designs. If you get a rude answer or no answer at all then don't go back.
I will add some links for some of the sites of cuties.
There are heaps more but that is all I can come up with at the moment

I forgot to mention that if you do not have your hooping technique right it won't matter how good the design is or how much you pay for it, it still won't stitch well. Practice and test on some cheap fabric.

One of the best sites for single designs is Embroidery Library, www.emblibrary.com, where you will find designs for all sorts of occasions. Today they have changed the Flower of the Month and there also some freebies. All their designs stitch out great, and the site itself is lovely and well worth looking at. Hope you enjoy it.

thanks, I'm going to check them out. Need a new design for the next sun hat and I don't have much fabric left.

What kind of machine do you have? I just got a Ellageo Plus last July & did not do much stitching until now. Found out it is better to put the other bobbin case in my machine when doing embroidery. Some machines have 2 different bobbin cases & this may be the case in your machine. My dealer told me it had to do with the tension in the bobbin case. I know it made a difference in my stitch outs. I have used many free designs & they came out great.

I have a brother se400, only one bobbin comes with it. I have some sewing to do and will be embroidering a new hat after this one is complete. I hope the machine isn't damaged.
