Is it possible to use a light weight fabric and trim it close with FSL? I may do that instead of the water stabilizer.

It would not be true FSL, but you can use organza or tulle - it gives a slightly different effect, still use your washaway under the organza, and rinse as if it was FSL. I usually use two layers of organza too, and the sparkly ones are gorgeous.

(with the organza you can 'carefully' run round the edge after you have finished with a soldering iron and melt away any bits that stick out. I have done that before :) I haven't tried tulle but I imagine it would work the same way)

You can also use tuel and burn the tuel away with a craft heat tool or trim it real close.

I saw on "Sewing with Nancy" she used a soldering iron to trim off the ends on a FSL project. She was making a candy garland. I think the teacher won't mind the edges not perfect but love to get the gift and men don't notice these things anywho...lol

you could - but you still will have the ends from the fabric showing - more than likely.
