I am terrible at hooping too, I don't have a disappearing ink pen yet and the plastic grid gets me mixed up, maybe I should learn to use it correctly, lol!

I too use my ironing board to hoop. I use shelf liner under my sewing machine so it won't move and was looking for it to use on the ironing bd. I bought 2 place mats at Salvation Army similar rubbery plastic and use it under the hoop now and it doesn't move. I too draw lines thru the center from side to side and up and down with a disappearing ink pen. Maybe this will help. Maureen

Thanks for everyone whom answered this question... I do not have trouble hooping the material, just hooping it so the design is not downhill..... I guess I need to draw a straight line on my fabric and make sure it goes straight from side to side in the hoop, right??

I have my own method. I always hoop on my ironing board. The cover on my ironing board has large checks (I bought the material especially for this) - I then line the hoop up with the checks, so the hoop is straight and does not slide about. I have already marked the center of the material I am about to embroider. This works perfectly for me but I know that it is not a very conventional way of hooping!!!!

Here is a past link from April 2011 on how other cuties deal with their hooping problems. Lots of good ideas to help you find what will work best for you.

Hi Le,

I personally centre my fabric. For example I fold the fabric in half and then half again and find the centre point. I then put a dot on the centre with a water erasable pen. I have a purple one. I then place it in the hoop and use the template that comes with your hoop - there is always centre marks on top and bottom and left and right and mine have a centre hole (really small). Once I've lined up the purple dot with the centre hole it is really easy to manipulate the fabric - easy peasy!

Hope you have better luck next time. I'm sure there will be other methods from other cuties.

Love and blessings Chris
