Sam's Warehouse has some fantastic thick, warm, but lightweight, fleece throws, all different qualities, colours and prices but so gorgeously comfy.

Perhaps you could purchase one of those, embroider something totally Aussie on it, and his birthday date.

I know I would really love one of those blankys. :-)
Hugs and roses, Meganne
PS, you can roll them up really tightly to fit in your luggage.
PPS, And of course you probably already know that you roll up all your clothes for travelling as you can fit them in better and they don't crease as much. :-)

I like this idea. I'll be visiting Sam's Warehouse in Ballarat next week so I'll check them out. This sounds good for family birthdays and Christmas pressies, especially if you're travelling overseas and take them with you, drop them off and fill your bag with goodies to come home.... :}
About the PS and PPS - all my travelling jackets and coats are fleece.

Because I am taking many home made gifts for all my family over in the UK I have got to try and keep it light otherwise I will not hve room for my own personal gear. Great idea though and thanks

Do you know if he likes to do Sudoku?
He might like a small bag from Australian Fabric with an Australian Bird/Animal/Flower design embroidered on calico on the front to keep his book, pencil and eraser safe.

I made this for DHDon when he was in hospital and it gets used every day. It's about 20cm x 24cm. The red edge is actually about 2.5cm wide and is the side wall of the bag to accommodate thicker books.
I chose chooks for Don because he used to run the school chicken business, and that's all I had at the motel at the time, and I pieced the borders much like a mini-quilt and lined it with green/white ticking.

You could do an embroidery on the front , and on the back you could create a label
e.g. To..... From...... and the date.

Just an idea for you to play around with..... :}

great idea, the only sport he likes is football (soccer) so I could try and get a suitable football design.
Thanks again

Why not do something Really Aussie for him on a towel. I like personalised towels for gifts because they are really practical.

thanks for the idea which I was tossing around. With weight restrictions I cannot make anything too big and heavy. He loves football (soccer) and I am trying to find a nice design, have a few designs but not too thrilled with any of them.
thanks again Madeline

You could monogram a lap blanket for him. It's so rainy and damp in England, I'd think he'd love it.;)

What things does your brother like? Many great achievements and discoveries have been made in his lifetime. Can you make--i.e., embroider--a collage of some of these? Or what about a collage of achievements he mad in his own life--in family, career, etc.? Good luck and happy 85th b'day to your BIL!

I have not lived in the Uk for over 40 years so I am up to date with his life and time is running out. I know he was in World War 2 but it it something he would never talk about.
Thanks again

If he wears singlets what about something on that. I don't know if he has a sense of humour so you could put something on it that was funny. You will be there in the Autumn so maybe something along the lines of the seasons. Does he like gardening, you could find a design and put it on a towel for his garden shed etc. If you can find out his likes it might make it a bit easier.

Does he like to barbecue? Maybe a BBQ apron with something cute on the front. Love and blessings Chris

P.S. I am sure there will be lots of other cuties along with some other great ideas.

I am new to Cuties so I really thank you and all for the wonderful ideas, I think it will be a towel with either football (soccer) on or something to do with the garden.
Must make my mind up quickly as time is running out.
