The needle keeps falling out of my machine! I have done everything I can think of to get it right, but the screw seems to loosen up all by itself! I know the needle is in the right position but I'm beginning to think my machine hates me this morning!

Sounds like a cracked needle bar and $80 part(I think). Take it the the shop. I hope I'm wrong but it did happen to me recently. Sorry.
If that is the problem and you get it fixed prevent it from happening again by tightening with your fingers and not a screwdriver so it doesn't get over tightened.

If it is a common problem with the Bernina Artista 180 it seems to me Bernina should repair it at no cost to the owner. As your dealer if there is any 'good will' funds available from Bernina to repair your machine at no cost if it is past the warranty period. If he is not familiar with 'good will' funds just ask him to contact Bernina for you. If the dealer doesn't do it just contact Bernina yourself. It won't hurt anything to make an inquiry.

My dealer is no longer in business, she had to sell because of health reasons, and no one was willing to buy her out. I doubt Bernina would pay for a part from a machine I purchased 14 years ago. I might have to contact Bernina myself.

What make and model is your machine? I have a Bernina Artista 180 and the part that holds the needle cracked and now won't hold the needle. This was a common problem with this machine, I do have my back up 180 to use until I can afford to get it replaced. Or it could be like noah says and the screw is sripped at first I thought this is what was wrong with mine and went to my dealer to get a new screw and was told that this part cracking was a common problem. I happened right after I used a thread that wouldn't feed through the machine and pulled the needle out of shape and it hit the foot.
