propped up because it felt like it was going to explode. I thought I would get up early this morning and get the daily free letters from yesterday.....NOT! I got all but Yoriko's lovely new Daisy F! Of all the letters to miss, it had to be my last name initial. With the difference in the time and Yoriko being an early bird, I missed the very letter I was planning to use on the corner of a set of napkins for my DIL.

Appt was not a good report. I was in so much pain last night that I got no sleep. If I had not had someone scheduled to come into my home this morning, I think I would have stayed in the bed. As soon as they come and go, I will most likely go back to bed. The Dr. told me yesterday to STAY OFF THE COMPUTER with my legs hanging down or I was going to loose my right leg. Of course, I have been fighting to keep this leg for many yrs now and it has been worse but I was much younger and had better health at the time..... until I did have the 1st surgery. I have to go back again on the 26th for another proceedure on my right leg. The Dr was very nice but he was not the one doing the proceedure on my leg. The Wound Care Nurse was the one that was so brutal yesterday. She also told me that the bandage needed to be changed every 2 to 3 days on my leg and than made the appointment for 10 days later. Go figure. Hugs, Linda

Oh , Linda, I hate it that I am so close but still far away. I am going to come down there and ring your son's neck if he does not start doing more for you. One thing for sure, if you have to go to the hospital, I could baby sit your dogs.. I do it for my daughter. kennels are so expensive now and sometimes the dogs don't eat there. So, do not worry about your dogs. I know your daughter in law will not keep them. You must concentrate on getting well. Kay

Thanks Kay! Those two are a comedy team together. By the way, the home health care nurse is coming tomorrow to drees my leg and chack to see just what needs to be done. I don't have to ride to Rex and back again. This is my first time having a nurse come to the house. She is supposed to be here between 10:00 and 12:00 and it should take about 30 minutes to unwrap, clean and redress the leg. Her name is Karen and she sounded like a very nice person the couple of times that we talked. Hopefully she will be able to return and dress it on a regular basis. My DIL was the one that asked the Dr about getting a home health Nurse come to the house. I guess the 1 time she had to take me to the Dr was enough for her! She does have a very weak stomach! I have had no sleep in the last few days/nights so I hope I will be moving fast enough to be decent by the time she arrives. I usually wake up around 5:00 and am always up and in the kitchen getting my coffee ready by 6:00. It is after 10:00 PM here and I have not eaten but once today.I think I am going to fix a bowl of cereal and go back to bed! Goodnight all!

Look after that leg. Don't worry about a missed alpha letter, I am sure you have plenty without it!!!!. Your legs are more important. Love Marg

Dear Linda,

I do pray that you heed your doctor's advice. You need to rest that leg and keep it propped up. Take care and I hope that it will improve. I do pray that you can get some assistance to dress it as well.

Love and blessings Chris

Thanks Chris! My DIL took me to the Dr. last week and she asked the Dr about getting a Home Health Nurse to come in and bandage my legs. He put in an order for it and it was oked by the insurance. I have someone coming in tomorrow morning to see what is going on and she has already talked to the Wound Care Nurse and found out what kind of compression bandages to wrap it with. Her name is Karen and we have talked twice on the phone and she souds like a very nice person. The undressing and then the cleaning and rewrapping is rough as far a pain goes but she sounded like she was very used to using the kind of bandages that need to be used. It has 4 layers and is wrapped very tight. If it swells with the tight bandage on it, it hurts like crazy.I can not misbehave very much because it will tell on me! Hugs, Linda

do what you have to do - to care for yourself - sounds like you need someone that can come and change a dressing for you - every couple days and keep you leg in the upright postion.

Linda - you need to do what I do. I have a foot stool under my desk that I keep my feet on. I injured my knees some years ago and this gives the knee the relieve from just hanging down as we sit. I can stretch my legs out, and it not bother me nearly as bad. That is good, for I sit at a computer for my job, and probably am on one type or another for 10-12 hours a day. Best of luck in the healing.

I have a commercial table for my computer. It is a corner table where the computer is sytting and has a piece on either side. Under the table is reinforced by a steel bar about 3' in diameter and I do prop my feet up on those bars but they need to be elevated above the rest od my body.I would have a hard time getting my feet that high without propping them on pillows. I am not a spring chicken anymore! I am 64 and have arthritis very bad so I think I am going to have to spend most of my time in bed and I hate a TV! I did this to myself. I have spent my whole life abusing my body. I was an acrobat from 5 until after I got out of school, played every sport I could and even taught tennis and coached a little boys baseball team when my son was growing up. I was also a softball player until I finally had to give it up because of my X and my pains. My X would go to the ballfield and act like he was proud of me and when we got home he would raise sand wanting me to quit. He was NOT athletic at all. His favorite hobby was reading wars novels and one other that got him divorced from his wife and son! heehee Hugs. Linda

Thanks for the thoughts and the prayers! It is very hard to stay in bed especially with 2 little furbabies wanting attention. The Pekingese is very understanding and a very good girl but she is my baby and wants to always be as close as she can. The foster girl belongs to my GGD and is a strange little creature, She is not much trouble but she is a barker if she sees or hears anything "different" than the norm. She is also spastic! I find it hard to stay in bed and not be able to take up time with them constantly. Hugs and blessings. Linda

Do you have a home health nurse coming in to help you with the bandages? They should have set something up, if you're not able to change them yourself. I prop my legs up when I am sitting at the computer. I have never been able to sit with my legs down for very long. Just because I don't like my legs down. I am so sorry you are having such a hard time with your leg. I do hope the surgery helps and I pray the healing process is quick. Lots of **4U.

How do you prop them up? Do you use a lap top?

lflanders by lflanders 17 May 2011

I will have a home care nurse dressing them tomorrow for the 1st time. I sure do it works out well because I can not stand to drive so far to go and have it done. My step granddaughter took me to Wound Care yesterday because she went to school in the town where I had to go. I have never spent any one on one time with her other than a couple visits where she ran in and ran out. I have spent time with her at her Mom's and my son's house but she was completely different without Mom being around. As bad as I was hurting, we laughed all the way there and back. She did make the remark that she had no idea her granny was such a nut! Why cry when you can laugh? All of my son's family(that he married into) found out from day one that I spoke my mind and did not mind giving them y opinion. We started off like a real family from the beginning. My DIL has 2 grown daughters. The oldest will soon be 30 and she has a 6 yrs old daughter. The youngest is 25 and has 2 little boys 2 and 5.The youngest and her 2 sons have been living with my son and her Mom since last Aug. 1st. I keep the boys sometimes when I am able and they are wonderful children BUT they are real boys! The stinker(2)reminds me so much of my son when he was that age. He is a thinker and just when you think he is going to settle down for a few minutes, he is up and going again with that extra burst of energy. The older boy is an artist and very smart. It is too soon to say anything about the baby other than he is smart and always busy! The 6 yr old girl is as beautiful child as I have ever seen and has a beautiful personality also. I sure that(personality) does not change! Both of Gail's daughters are very pretty. They are as different as night and day with their personalities! It has been hard trying to get to know them because the oldest lives over an hour away and the youngest has been around her Mom all of the time we have spent together. The trip to the Dr out of town was an eye opener! Hugs and I gotta go to bed! Linda

Sorry to hear about your leg. Hope things improve. Take care of yourself. Could a small laptop computer solve the computer problem?

katydid by katydid 17 May 2011

That is what i was thinking. she could sent all downloads to a USB and transfer to other computer later.

lflanders by lflanders 17 May 2011

I have been trying to talk my son out of one of his but he refuses to let one of the laptops go!I am really ashamed to even say how many computers he has! He programs computers and designs web pages for several different establishments. He thinks he has to have all of them. Hugs, Linda

I'm so sorry to hear you're leg problem is worsening Linda.
Maybe losing it would be the lesser of the two evils?????

I think there are much worse things than losing a leg, losing your life, or even your Quality of life, would be much worse.

My Dad was a polio survivor, had no use of his legs all his life, I often wondered, but never thought to ask, why didn't he have them both removed and get prosthetic legs? He probably would have been able to walk then.

His Mother lost her leg due to gangrene when she was 70, she got a prosthetic leg and was so good with it she used to dance with us (grand kids), she also used to take it off and threaten to hit us with it if we gave her cheek, (all in fun of course, she was a bonnie Scot)

I do hope you get some relief from it Linda and if the worse thing does have to happen, then maybe it won't be the worse thing, it's all in how you deal with it.

Hugs and love, Meganne

She is just going to have to obey the Dr's instructions to get better.

lflanders by lflanders 17 May 2011

Thanks for the kind thoughts Meganne. They did remind me that if it continued to be an open wound that It could very easily cause cancer. Kay is right also! I am going to do better with my bad habit of sitting at the computer all day. My son has 2 laptops in the house and several computers out in his office but he can not bear the thought of letting one of them go. I have not spent even an hour on it all together today. I AM really scared at this point! Good night all, Linda

meganne by meganne 18 May 2011

NOT ONLY cancer Linda, I would think there are many other diseases that could come into play when you have an open wound that won't heal.

It's about time you woke up to yourself woman!
Or do I have to come over and personally see to it that you do as you are told?

I'm here to tell you that you won't want Bossy Boots looking after you! LOL!!!

So behave yourself or you're gonna learn what hurting REALLY is. :-)))

With greatest love of course, just in case other Cuties take me the wrong way.
Hugs, Meganne
