now even more disturbed. I knew about an F5 that hit Guin, AL in the 1970's, maybe 1974) and I don't think things so terrible as this happened to the people that the tornado picked up. After the special on the weather channel about the scale I think some of the ones that came through on 4/27/11 had to be more than the 250 MPH estimated for F5. Surely another level should be added like maybe F6. Based on the aftermath there is no where people can be safe, even in basements. Perhaps safe rooms with 2 ft thick concrete walls with those special doors might be the only thing. People died that were in underground storm shelters.

A reminder to all cuties. Check your insurance policies and make sure you have enough coverage in case you absolutely lose everything you own. I pray that we all stay safe.

Message from Jane below:
designcrazy, I am going through old post, before the tornadoes on April 27th. We were without power for 9 & 1/2 days, so I missed alot. My son still doesn't have power. He lives near Trenton, Ga. We have been busy trying to help those with damage. I wish I could help more, I kept my Grandsons last week. The daycare opened back up today. And one school in this area is sharing their building with another school. Each school is doing a half day each, starting today, to finish out this school year. We need to keep praying for all in need. I think people forget where our help comes from.
May God help us all,
Jane
I forgot to say that I'm from Rainsville, Al. in Dekalb county, where there were 35 people killed.

I cooked some food and took to a church in our area that's feeding those who lost their home, or are still without electricty and also anyone working to clear the damaged areas. I don't know the # that were served because people were there eating when I got there, but it was a largr # of people. Please continue to pray because there are so many needs to be met.
Love to all,
Jane

I live in Blount county and thank God the damage was not as bad or widespread as in other areas. I did however go to help some church members in Cullman County. Oh my gosh, made me feel so very small and although I did work nearly all day, it was just a tiny bit. God is so merciful. Of all the thousands of homes totally demolished, so few people died in comparison. The help that has come into the State of Alabama is AWSOME, and truly, we thank each and everyone who sent food, funds, clothing, toiletries, etc. God truly has blessed this United States with such good hearted people. Too bad we only hear about the bad. Yes, there were looters, just like in any other disaster, but they will be dealt with by someone other than humans. Although I did not even have a loose leaf in my yard, I want to say THANK YOU to ALL THE PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO HAVE DONE ANYTHING TO HELP! It is truly appreciated, you will not receive a thank you card, but your crown in glory will truly be heavy with jewels! Thanks again!!!

Something I would like to say here. Even though the storms are over, peoples personal storms are not. Working with the public i see people every day who have been through heart ache from this mess. A lot are "shell shocked"and feel guilty about talking about their problems. One of the most common things I hear is "Yes, but at least we are alive." These people's problems are valid. Some have no homes or only part of a home. Some have lost loved ones. Please let's not forget that the healing down here will take time and effort on all kinds of levels. Pray for hope and peace of mind for those affected. If you can donate either time or money to the worthy causes that are helping in the rebuilding don't hesitate. One other thing hug those you hold close and tell them how much you love and appreciate them. I am sending a big HUG to all of you for your caring hearts.

Very well said 'undergroundsue'. My neighbor and his son are going to Phil Campbell & Hackleburg, AL most days to help clear homesites. The horror of what has happened to these people can't be measured. I fear that some will never recover emotionally. I wish I could go help but I am rarely able to leave my home because of my husband's condition. I am lucky to get to the grocery store periodically and then I am rushing back home. Every new story I hear is making me feel worse & worse and so helpless when it comes to reaching out to those affected. I continue to pray.

Yes it was awful those of us here in Al. that was close to all this realize how bad it was. I went to Cullman, Al. today to try & find out something about my Babylock Dealer & his wife who are good friends. I started crying a mile beore I got to Cullman that mile was on 278 everything was gone, beautiful large antebellum homes, small homes, businesses, a large Bapt Church that covers almost an entire block, demolished. Down town I couldn't get to the area I wanted to get to all streets closed, entire blocks of huge buildings, businesses & more churches deolished. I parked & walked 4 blocks to find the shop. Most of it was still standing but badly damaged. It was cordoned off with yellow & in red paint on it was building unsafe do not enter. No windows, plywood nailed over them so sad. Everything around gone. Across the street that large building was just a pile of rubble. I'm still trying to reach my friends but I get no answer from their home either. They were older , close to my age & I am 72 but I still have hope they are alright./Lillian

Oh Lillian, I pray that you find your friends safe. Maybe they are with family where they were safe from harm. This has been so disturbing to me, I've never seen anything so bad in my 59 years. Please take care of youself.

Lillian, Thank you so much for posting that about Cullman. I will be going through there on the 17th. I go through Moulton to Cullman and then down I65 to B'Ham for my husband's doctor visits. It has always seemed to me that from Muscle Shoals to below Cullman around the rest stop is always hard hit by tornados. My husband and I are so blessed to have been spared in this tragedy for so many around us. Praying for everyone's safety.
