I kept re-threading every time she broke the thread (which was every few stitches), finally got so frustrated I walked away after calling her a few choice names! The repairman who worked on her last week told me that I should be using a universal needle, size 90, instead of the size 75 called for in my manual. I figured he must know what he was talking about so that was what I was using. I put a size 75 back in and there was no more problems! Just goes to show that not all repairmen know what our machines like!

I changed the needle in mine last week as I was embroidering on dog collar webbing which is quite thick. It was looping lots less with a size 14 sharp than the 11 that I normally would use in it. I would think it might depend on the fabric you mostly embroider on and maybe the thread you use also as metallics are known to work better with a bigger eye. Considering some people all use wing needles etc there must surely be some variation.

I like to use embroidery needles ( all sizes available) because they have slightly elongated/bigger eye for the emb thread.
Happy Stitching!

I always believe the manual first and besides, how much can a repairMAN know better than us and our machines? LOL, glad you are back up and running!
