Oooh, you gotta get that man to quit the smoking! Dying from cigs is not a nice way to go, no matter what version it takes (cancer of various forms, emphysema, heart disease). And he shouldn't take the chance that he will be one of the few that don't seem to develop one of the diseases since so many do. Anyway, back to the grocery topic, I am so glad that my honey enjoys going grocery shopping with me. He was actually hurt when I went without him one time. And when the twins get home, there will be NO way that I will ever be able to go alone again.

I would love him to quit all his smoking. My husband doesn't mind shopping. He just goes n gets what he thinks we needs and almost alsways leaves me behind in the store. Frustrating. Could be cuz he usually goes after he gets off work?!

There is only my husband and me to feed, but we try to eat healthy - not many processed foods, and etc -and boy does that hurt at the checkout line. Especially fruits and vegetables! $1.50 for a tomatoe - and a small one at that. I think I may try to grow some of my own!

yeah, we do that too and it is pricey to be a healthy eater!;)

I tried to grow a garden last year, but never fot the dirt in like promised so things never grew. Was just a waste of time, energy and cost of seeds, water,.... Maybe this yr?!?! LOL In my dreams me thinks unfortunately. *4U

I was only kidding about the money part. I retired over 10 yrs. ago with a pension and social security which is about 1/3 of my regular salary. Try cutting back 2/3 and you know where I am. If my sweetie didn't help me, I would probably be a "bag-lady" down on Peachtree St.

I know that possibility. If I weren't managing 2 apt blocks when by myself, I would'a been there myself. One just can't live by themself anymore can they? Some guys take that as an advantage over some of us women and use it as their tool.

I usually spent about $120 per week for 4. Last week, I went shopping with my hub and he spent $200. He always complain that I spent over $100 on food. Finally, he realized that it was not easy and cheap to buy food any more. Before the gas went up, I usually brought name brand. Now, I only buy store brand to keep me food cost down. I just don't understand why we US can't be like Brazeil to as make cars burn both gas and ethonal. Only about $100 to add the part that can burn ethonal.

My husband is too picky to buy store brand much. Most of it tastes the same. That's why I like Superstore....their brand names are cheaper yet :D If I took a bus there and cab back, it would still be cheaper.

At least he knows first hand how much it cost to get out of the grocery store. If you can afford it let him shop for you, if not cut out his cig. We have to be able to buy designs!!!

I can tell you he would not go for that. And the problem is, we really can't afford his cigs or his extras here. Wish he could realize that.

Yes prices are really going up all over. Makes it more difficult for retirement! Good thing we all like doing embroidery for those days we can't afford to travel anywhere.

Retirement? What's that! I'm 39 and doubt I'll be able to retire EVER. Oh my goodness, the cost of living keeps increasing faster than our paychecks. Blessings Clawton... xoxo

joaniessw by joaniessw 03 Apr 2008

I'm with you girl. I don't think I will ever see retirement. Been a rough life. Inflation, inflation, inflation....

I can relate the gas here is about $3.50 a gal and food is outrageous, I usually spend upwards of $150 a week for just two of us. And as the gas goes up so does everything else because no big corp. will eat the expense so it passes down to the little guy, but yet our lousy govt still sends millions everywhere else. I don't mind helping but shouldn't you take care of your own yard before taking care of your neighbors? Oh well, just eat less I guess, you could have hubby quit smoking that would save more money for patterns and fabric! And whatever you do, don't get sick :-) flower for you

We probably do spend approx $200/wk. So sickening we can't afford to get sick. He has talked about quinting his smoking. All talk so far. He smokes in the garage cuz I'm allergic to it and asthmatic too.

bikermomfl by bikermomfl 03 Apr 2008

FYI I used to be a 2 1/2 pk a day smoker and went to one of those hypnosis seminars, and in 3 hours became a non-smoker, so far it's lasted 17 years, my co-worker at the time went with me and she also quit and is still not smoking. I think this works if you want to quit bad enough maybe he'll try. Glad he's in the garage my ex wouldn't have been, he would have told me to go to the garage! Course that's why he's my ex (hahahahaha) anyway my now hubby is terrific about everything including my expanding waist. Guess it's old age, oh well as my mother used to say "It's better than the alternative"! At least I've got my Harley, my sewing machine, my cats and my man what more could any woman want! :-)

joaniessw by joaniessw 03 Apr 2008

Alright, you go girl. I love it. Wish I could say I had my Harley...or even my old Virago 1000 back. Oh how I miss biking. Gets into your blood, doesn't it ;)

Wow, sounds like a fortune joanie, but then you do have a whole family of kids to feed and that makes a huge difference, I only have two to buy for so my bill is heaps cheaper, still expensive enough though!!! Hugs and a flower for you sweetie.

Yes it's getting so tough to survive these days, we're paying in excess of $6 a gallon for petrol (gas) right now, can't afford to go anywhere, and we spent over $340 just at the pharmacy last week, no food, just prescription meds and essential vitamins. It's a wonder we don't shrink away to nothing but just the opposite as we seem to eat cheaper foods that are more filling and more fattening. at least we can share roses, cheers, Meganne

joaniessw by joaniessw 03 Apr 2008

He's realizing how much it cost now cuz I used to buy most when I was working. Now he knows how much I spent lol. Thank you for roses. Love them and sharing with you :)

meganne by meganne 03 Apr 2008

Ah... I think that's a good thing, most men expect wives to get by on a shoestring and it's a real wake up call when they can realise it's not as easy as we make it look. Superwomen that we are :-)

joaniessw by joaniessw 03 Apr 2008

I used to shop at Superstore, but he won't go there (busier?!?!) and will only go to Safeway. Sorry, but Safeway is a lot more costly and doesn't have as fresh vegies/fruit. Oh well, in time I'm sure he will get me to go on his days off work so I can use the car. Meanwhile, go with him, sit back don't think of it cuz it won't change anything :D :D

clawton by clawton 03 Apr 2008

meganne, looks like you are over 1000 flowers. CONGRATULATIONS. We can still enjoy the flowers, at least as long as we can afford the internet cost!
