I could better understand the color changes, if there was layering or overlapping of colors. One color change was to simply stitch the tail... yet, nothing had been stitched in that area since the backside was stitched in the same color.

Do the bigger designers have the idea that we all have multiple thread machines? Or, is it especially difficult to program or map out grouping of colors where possible?

While extremely minor in the scheme of life... I do find this annoying. So, I thought I would ask you wise and wonderful cuties.
Thanks.

Colour sorting might have helped you, but would have left the jumps. You expect that from a beginner or from autodigitising. I've seen quite a number of 1 colour designs that have more than 100 jumps, all over the place, without any logic, which meant you had to stop and cut as it would be virtually impossible to do it afterwards. But those designs were by amateurs, who had not tested the design, not by the "bigger designers" as you called them.

Having said that, it takes time - sometimes a lot of time - to ensure there are as few jumps and/or colour changes as possible.

I don't buy many designs but this time I had bought one and it was horrible. So many unnecessary color changes. I was able to fix it in my software, but it took a lot of time.

When this happens, send them a email about your problems. Maybe if they get enough emails they will have to fix this problem.. If we don't say anything, they can continue to sell "bad" designs!

I once did a motorbike with rider all in black with numerous jumps! I cannot digitize but I also cannot understand why it was done this way, so I figured that it must have been done by a machine and as we know they cannot think for themselves. But alas it will remain a mystery to me. If I was younger I would have bought the necessary program to change it but I am in my 70's and only embroider for pleasure and do not think it worth my while. So I will have to cut all the jumps while wondering. LOL

My 4D Extra software has a feature that groups all of the same color threads and minimizes the color changes.
So that if there are 5 red color changes it will group them all together and sew out all the red and not stop until all the red has been stitched out.

But it won't remedy the jumps and I find those quite annying too.

I didn't really have any problems with jump stitches after I had grouped all the colors together (see my comment here below.)

The thread was cut after each color block. Maybe it depends on what software you use?? I use Digitizer MB for Janome.

My P-E design program would allow me to group the colours and sort the individual bits to sew next to each other(not hop all over the place).
This design must be an exception that it needs altering.
Happy stitching!
