I have made an ornament to honor my Father's service to our country.....I will make one for my brother and myself and I will keep mine in the shadow box that I have his flag, from his military burial at sea, in. I used two different color #'s for my Dad's personal info and the name of the ship, so that if you want to make one of the ship you can do so by leaving out the first black stitching and use only the 2nd black stitching. I left my Dad's stuff in so you could see what you can do with it. You could probably use a different ship name too if you have a Naval vet that was on a different ship, but I did use one of my Dad's pic of the USS Erie for this..........

Design #: 7245704
Size (in): 3.82"(w)x4.45"(h)   (mm): 97mm(w)x113mm(h)
Stitches: 19296 Colors: 7 Print Color Chart

I love the design! Could you make the ship with a different ship name?
I tried but could not make it work with my soft ware. I can get that little.
I am trying to make.
Served on

Would it be hard for you to and this to the design?

Dear Basketcase, I feel that I have just got to write to you, I have not downloaded your designs, i.e your USA ornaments and xmas designs of chucky Mrs Claus as at the moment I have a few quilt projects on the go and I generally do not download any designs if I feel that I wont use them, but I just have to say you work very hard and are very generous with your designs, thank you Carol

Vicki, what a beautiful tribute to your father. My Dad died during the war, he was one of the Dutch Prisoners of War who died at the Burma Railroad. Some of my family members have been to visit his gravesite in Thailand, but I have never been able to do that yet, maybe one day?
You are truly a talented Lady and thank you for all your beautiful designs you share with us! Hugs, Trudy

Vicki, this is such a beautiful tribute to your father. He would be very proud of what you did in his memory. I'm going to send the picture of it to show my dad, who is the WWII vet. The Navy helped his Army division transport to Okinawa for the battle, and he has fond memories of the Navy. Have you ever tried to see if there is a group of his old division, much like my Dad's group? There might be someone who still remembers your dad. It's just a thought. We have helped unite some sons and daughters with some old buddies of their dads'. Thank you for sharing with us. Jan

No, I have never even thought to do that, wouldn't even know where to start, Jan? How neat that would be!!

hightechgrammy by hightechgrammy 14 Apr 2011

My dad just got home from the hospital, I'll ask him where to start. He'll need a challenge. Do you know the division and all that stuff. Better PM me! Or email at janwharton@me.com

Wow your ornament honoring your Dad is absolutely awesome. My Dad was a Pearl Harbor survivor who got off the USS Arizona one day before the attack and spent most of his time on the USS West Virginia. What a great tribute to your Dad. Sincerely, Carol

You can! You can make a Blue Star flag for him on something. and there are lots of designs for the different branches of the military. There are really fun Police designs, some serious and some comical. My dad, now 84, LOVES all of these I make for him. I'll post some in projects later to maybe give you some ideas. Your DH would love it!
