As soon as I got the email, I opened the site and letter A was not available free; I started collecting with letter B. The email was posted 3:02 am, 3-11-11; sometime between 8 & 9 am when I went to the site, A was no longer free.

This happens at the beginning of every alpha on this site. Watch after the B for the A again. Keep a good watch out!

I beg you speak of the springtime-alpha on cute Alphabets.com (sister-site to Cute Embroidery!).
The B was there just for a short time and now is the A again (maybe because the NL was too late for most of the people).
For dreama: If you made a double-post (or in your case 5x), you can click on the triangle with the red exclamationmark and ask miss Veronika to delete the redundant posts :o)
