Does your husband use handkerchiefs? Mine does, and I have done all sorts of things on the corners of them. Monograms, little images of things he likes (board game pieces, frogs, aliens, and so forth) and he enjoys those. He can fold the handkerchief so that the embroidery shows or is hidden, depending on his mood.

Another thing that you might want to try is socks. You could do a little soccer ball on a pair of dress socks, up near the edge of the cuff, and he could wear them without anyone ever knowing. Kind of a fun little insiders joke.

cutiepie, the thing is it took me years to convince my hubby to use tissues instead of hankies (I dont like finding dirting hankies in washing lol) so despite I know they can really look nice, there's no way I'm gonna encourage him to use them again lol. *4u (take care sweetie, u & yr boys r in our prayers)

How about putting a design on a roll of Toilet Paper. I have done many for people, kind of a conversation piece and very simple to do. Just roll off a few lengths from the roll (don't tear it off) put a soft stabilizer in your hoop, put the TP over the stabilzer, I usually center a square of the TP in the hoop, put a clear stabilizer on top, then sew your design. When your finished I just trim off the stabilzer to the same size as the TP. Put it in Saran wrap, tie both with ribbon. Jerri

you could do one of those cups you put an insert in and embroider on the insert

Anna25775. Embroider a large design on the back of a shirt and a smaller design on both sides of the front, above or on the pocket. This would be for casual wear. He must wear other shirts beside business shirts. This could be stitched the same colour as the shirt or the colour of his football team (football or hedgehogs designs) Good luck.

Hi Anna, How about a cover for his Bible or Hymn Book and matching bookmark/s. Also you could make a set of four Panel-type pictures to frame, forming either a square set -(2 up - 2 down) or four side by side. There are some beautiful bird panels at Emblibrary, that's what i'm going to make for my partner. Let me know if you need help to find them. cheers & a rose, Meganne

You have received wonderful suggestions, and not a lot to add for guys - the monograms on cuff of shirts and pocket are very nice. Too, an embroidered picture of either his hobby, or favorite sport - They have some neat designs with soccer - or put something very special on a throw for his favorite chair.

ok here's some help for those who'd like to help me here: my hubby works at a university=lots of conferences and important meetings therefore formal attire for work. He also helps at the local church-so anyone having christian ideas for guys is welcome to help me here please. He's much into what we here call football (or what others call soccer) and has this special love for hedgehogs (no, thank God he hasn't so far decided to keep one as pet) btw he unfortunately does not like dogs (they are my fav animal) but loves cats (to which I'm allergic). and oh... he's turning 40 this year and is really making a BIG fuss about it so I would really like to make something special for him.... only I don't know what. so please please HELP!!

Put tiny monogram on his dress shirt cuffs. Or if he plays golf, a golf towel or gym towel, or gym bag. I have also see some small incredible monograms on silk ties.;)

I was going to suggest something small on a special tie or make a paper weight.

my hubby being a private music teacher is also shirt and tie kinda guy, have you tried some of his favorite items, birds, planes etc and embroider them on a necktie. You can either use a ready made plain tie and just stitch it down or make your own. It will certainly be special.

great idea, thank you! I'm off to search those plain ugly ties my hubby had before we got married - never occured to me I that I could embroider them. Good thing he had resisted me throwing them away!!!

anna25775 by anna25775 12 Mar 2008

flower for you of course bikermomfl and by the way do you have any idea where I can get a patter of a tie in case I ever put it into my head to make him one myself?

cutiepie by cutiepie 14 Mar 2008

Take one of those ugly ties you mentioned and undo the seams in it to use as a pattern for future use (hide it so he doesn't know what you did with it or else just trace it onto paper and put the original back together). Remember to cut the tie out on the bias of the material so it will hang correctly. =] I found that I have had the best results when embroidering on ties if I undo the back seam enough so that I'm only embroidering on a single layer. Otherwise, it tends to pucker a bit.

anna25775 by anna25775 14 Mar 2008

thanks for the tips cutiepie - didnt know (or forgot rather) that ties had to be sewn on bias, good thing I've yet to decide what to make him!
