How old do think something has to be,to be classed as antique?

Will our embroidered by machine Quilts and other Items be described as "hand made " ???

I've always been told that for something to be antique, it has to be over 100yrs. Vintage over 50, Retro over 25, modern, 10, but these things change like everything else...So now I'm considered antique to some. hehehe.

I know from car shows that a car is considered a classic at 25 years, but to be an antique it has to be older than that. I'm slightly over 50 and I know from going to auctions, that most collectibles worth anything and considered antique are my age...50 years or older. I now qualify as an antique...lol!

Also as far as quilts, handsewn quilts are worth more than machine made quilts, especially older quilts.

This is from wikipedia

It is common practise to define "antique", as applying to objects at least 50 years old. Collectibles are, generally speaking, the possible antiques of the future and generally less than 50 years old.

However, sometimes I feel like an antique and I'm not 50 yet.

Hugs and Thanks for answers. I am going to put the date on all my items.
Never know, they might last till "antique".

I also understand that anything over 100 years old is an antique. That means my mother in law is an antique as she is 102 years on Sunday :)))!!!! Sarah.

this is correct, anything over a 100 years old. Gosh but she sounds like a strong lady. Kisses for her.

I didn't know and this is what I read. In the US the Revenue service classes antiques as items 100 years plus in age.
Purists also class antique as 100 years plus in age. In many country's an item 2 generations old is also classed antique. Sadly there is no absolute definitive answers. However, being a purist - I go for 100 years to be absolutely faithful to the concept. So I am not an antique YET!

Depends furniture, cars and others are different. I think cars are @ maybe 30 yrs old. However I could be wrong. I know my sister has a 68-or 69 T-bird and it has a antique tag. It may depend on where you live and who you ask. There may be a lot of us that are antiques. LOL

I thought Vintage was anything over 50 years and Antique anything over 75 years????

Now I may have to Google it to find out just what classification I come under! LOL!!!

Cars are considered antique at age 50. So probably everything else must be at least 50 to 100 years old.
Only thing wrong with kind of thinking is that I too now qualify as antique....lol. Hugs, Karen

I understand that something has to be over 100 years old to be an antique, someone might correct me lol.
Well I put a small embroidered label behind my quilts that it is handmade by me lol.Feel that is right as we embroider each piece and than put it together but once again someone might not agree
