I find the only webiste sites I buy from are the ones where I'm given a free letter without hunting through a bunch of sets to find it. Seems I'm more likely to take a look around when I'm not driving myself nuts with a hunt. Also, I feel the need to reward the websites that don't make me hunt, like Yoriko's or Sonia Showalter. And I keep renewing my subscription to Cute, because Miss Veronika sponsors the forum and gives daily free designs on her sister sites.

Based on what others have said I must be the exception. I love doing hunts. I just finished Design Fest Hunt that I only started last Monday (all 200+ designs in a week-not fulltime of course; I have to work to pay for all this fun). It is probably the forensic accountant in me that challenges me do them, but I also love doing hidden picture games and jigsaw puzzles.
As far as designs go, I buy designs from whatever site has whatever it is that I am looking for but in doing the hunts I seem to find more that I want than I can afford. I don't seem to spend quite as much time on sites that give the designs away. But in knowing that I do not spend as much time on those sites, I make a concerted effort to look through their design collections to see what they have that I want to buy because they have given of their time and talent so freely. I cannot alway take; I have to give back also.
We had a previous question recently regarding ebay; I am one of those people who buys designs from ebay also. As with buying from websites I am selective of what I buy from ebay.
I don't consider myself very artistically creative but I can follow directions well; I leave my creative talents to following the money trail. I think that the lack of artistic talent is why I have spent so little time with my digitizing software but have spent countless hours watching my machine spit out the designs I feed it. It's the thrill of victory to put design on a garment, blanket, quilt etc and have it look so beautiful. I thank the digitizer for that beauty. - Aileen

I get annoyed with hunts too. If they want me to look at a something new, put the design at the bottom of that page. As I scroll down, I look at their designs instead of rushing thru looking for a single hidden design. Or make the freebie a teaser design for a set, then I tend to purchase more to get the whole set

I don't waste time on any hunts except Gorgeous Stitches and only then if it's for FSL designs. Never do I hunt alphabets.I'm burned out on alphabets and don't even take the free offerings unless of course they are FSL. LOL

I purchase from sites if I like the design, not because they offer something free or hunts.
Good question and *4U

I echo the sentiments here. While time is not a big factor to me I would rather be 'rewarded' for my interest in a website by a free design, openly and freely given, and then spend however long I like viewing design sets, often making a purchase, not always, but certainly feeling much happier about returning when my funds allow a spending spree.

However, let me add that I think very few alphabets and fonts match the versatility, digitising skill, creativity, and professionalism of those either given to us or offered for sale at very reasonable introductory prices as those made by Veronika.

Hunts do not make me look at the sets in which the letters are hidden.

I do not like the time consuming hunts! Just downloading
a free design gives me more time to check out a few specific sets of interest on any website. I usually do not even go to the websites that indicate "hunts"! There is only so much time to browse, so do not want to spend it "hunting"!

my answer is the same as ever yone else. I hate hunts and do not do them. I think they are time consuming and I would rather be sewing or something else that I love to do. I used to download lots of freebies. I do not even do that anymore. I have more than enough designs. If I see something I really like, I will buy it. Hugs, Mary

I seen some site owners say mean things to people when they asked about the hunts. They tell them things like, "I am giving you something and you are too lazy to look" and "Some of you get freebies and still won't buy", etc., etc. A owner can build or tear down their own clientel. When I see such remarks as this, I wants no part! I get enough ATTITUDE with the community I work with :> FIESTA ANYHOW ;D *2U

I don't do hunts, I don't have that kind of free time available. If I have to hunt for s free be I generally don't return to the site. I lose interest becasue I'm not really paying attention to whats really offered, there fore I do not save it for future reference. The only place I hunt for designs in in the Designs by cute, and thats 308 pages deep of alot of wonderful designs.

Sites that due hunts forget some people only have dial-up. They are looking for traffic (hits) on the site , so they can sell advertizing.

Do Not do hunts. Way too time consuming and will purchase from a site that offers their freebies up front. Perhaps those sites with the hunts will reconsider when they realize there are many who don't like them or bother. Great question and nice to see that I'm not the only one who feels this way.

No hunts here--do not have that much extra time!! I also never buy from any site that does not offer any samples to try. In the beginning of my embroidering I make the mistake of purchasing designs that did not have a sample to try some of them did not stitch out very well. H&*

I do not do hunts except for Georgous Stitches. I would not miss her designs for anything! I really enjoy just looking through her designs! Her site is my only exception! It would take me a week or longer to get through the site that has hidden alpha's because she has so many pages and the site is sooo slow. She has alot of nice designs but she also has alot that I have no reason to need! Since I have more alpha's than she does, I see no point in wasting a week or longer trying to get around her site. I have been collecting designs since the 1st embroidery machine went on the market for sale and I have more than I would or could ever use in my lifetime. I do not have very much time due to this crippling arthritis that has taken over my life. I want the time that I waste to be time that I enjoy! I would rather be here shooting the breeze with all of you than hunting something I might never use!

I don't do any hunts. But I do buy from the sites giving free designs. When a beautifully digitized design is given away, they must have many more lovelies for sale!

If I do a hunt I focus only on what I am hunting for and never even see what is on the site. By the time I find the hunt objectives I usually feel I just want to get away from the site. On a site like Yoriko's the free item is displayed, the pressure is off and I will take time to look around and often make a purchase if I find something I love.

I don't do hunts either. I like others will go look at the freebie but if is is not something I will use I do not d/l anymore. I have done 2 hunts but that is it for me. I don't like doing them either. It takes up so much time so you tend to try and do it quickly and not really look at the other designs on the sites.

I do not hunt I think it is a waste of time, I began the one from splinter and thread xmast abc but I got frustated I could not understand her clues, so gave up and deleted the letters already had in my folder. When the sites give us the letter like our site or sonia, Yoriko, and so many more, I feel like buy something in return for their generosity.

I have got very picky. I do not do hunts - hate them and I only buy now if it is something I really will use. I have thrown out so many designs as I know I will never use them. I hardly ever DL freebies these days.

253107
by evajungermann 20 Jan 2011

I agree with the others: hunting is a waste of time, collecting free ones daily is fun.
And today, after a few years of collecting, I have to confess that I have got very choosy with it and deleted many alphas of poor quality.
I only keep those with an artful look, because I can create now simpler texts with the Auto lettering functions of PE Designer and Embird.

I don't do the hunts. But I do freebies and last week there was a very cute angel for free on My Gardened and ended up buying all the angels I saw on the page for sale. If the site has cute designs on the first page and I see something cute I will buy it or the pack. I'm not into searching all the different designs unless I am looking for something special. I just got my memembership for Cute so I have been busy downloading all the designs.

I don't like to hunt for designs, on Sick I sometimes will hunt (even with tips) if I really like it but not on any other sites. If I go to a site for a freebie and see something I really like then I will be more likely to buy from them but I also buy from ones who don't give any freebies.

Neither, I'm more likely to buy from the one with the higher quality of embroidery. If I need a particular design I would make a point of looking around a website of a quality designer. I would say though, that the ones that have freebies are the ones I'm more likely to be familiar with.

I tend to buy from familar sites. The more often they give freebies, the more I visit. Sometimes I don't have time for the sites that make you hunt for their freebies. If a site has great prices, I will buy from them regularly.
