What a great idea. I buy bobbin containers that hold 25 bobbins from BigW here in Tamworth. Have
5 now, 2 for fsl. 2 for normal bobbin thread and one for my normal sewing machine. Helen

Great tip, I have a box of them at school that I was about to throw out. I'll salvage a couple of them.

Hi Chris, I'm afraid I can't claim credit for thinking it up. If you follow the link I posted you will see I found this on a forum and the person posting it said she had seen it in a magazine.

This is really a neat idea but I like the ring type holder so well that I won't be changing over. Besides I can tell at a glance how much thread is left on a bobbin. I'm thinking Shirlene uses these too.

I use these also. I tend to use one color for Emb thread and another color for reg thread. I'm up to 4 of them.

It is a wonderful idea. I like it better than the little boxes! They wouldn't take as much space to store.

I have a quilting book with a binder like this. Wonder if i should take it apart? Nah, I'll keep looking for another source. I think I"ll get the clear vinyl tubing instead.

How do you use the tubing?

bevintex by bevintex 10 Dec 2010

it was just posted a few days ago with picture instructions, can't find it now. Can anyone help?

bevintex by bevintex 10 Dec 2010

keep your bobbins from unwinding thread all over your sewing room, you can either buy those expensive bobbin keepers, or you can go to a hardware/home improvement store and buy a roll of 1/2" clear plastic tubing. Simply cut a little "slice" off of it, about 1/4", and then snip it open so it makes a "C". Simply slip it over the thread on the bobbin and your threads won't unravel

My mother used to tell me it was a mighty poor object that just had one use. This just proves she was right as usual. Thanks for the tip.

Thats a neat idea, Meganne. When I first purchased my machine and ordered prewound bobbins, I bought a small clear plastic box from Walmart that was perfect to hold my bobbins. I could see them at a glance to be able to know how many I had left and, also, the box closed to help keep the thread from drying. The bobbins stack neatly and the box is not moved often, so I do not have a problem with tangled thread. But, it is nice to be able to use items we may already have on hand, such as the binder curls, to store things.

Sure would keep them from unrolling, I have those little bobbin clips and I have tails everywhere. IF you can see the color of your thread under these loops it would work a lot better! I wonder if they come in clear??????? Might take a trip to office supply or Kinkos.

And I don't think these would cause me as much frustration as those Stupid Nancy Zeiman bobbin holders I bought. LOL!!!

by jjjj 10 Dec 2010

WOW. Just how much 'stuff' do we say is of no use or just plain rubbish. I keep telling myself I must 'think outsaide of the box' and this bobbin holder is thinking outside the box with avengence.
Thank you very much for the link

Who would have thought of that? And I just cleaned my office and threw probably a dozen of those spiral bound reports away. Bet I don't do that again. I do think that you can purcase those spiral binders to make reports - That would be good to keep the bobbins that have just a little thread on them separate from your others. Thanks for sharing.

Maybe an office supply store or Kinkos might sell you one.

meganne by meganne 10 Dec 2010

Or old books bound this way from Goodwill stores. A lot of the old Software manuals were bound like this.
