I am unable to see images of my designs in folder, it appears the text is there but no image after I extract. Using Vista 32 bit and 7-Zip. Do I need a embroidery program for images to show.

Tavanna, I use the Pulse Ambassador, it is free and mainly uses the DST color chart. Personally I rarely use the colors they suggest. I think of this as a coloring book and choose the colors I like best. I imagine that if you have a brother, you probably have a color check on your machine, which will tell you the correct colors to use. There is a website that has a color conversion, but not sure which one that is. Here is the link for Pulse. (I LOVE this just for the pictures, and also it will convert to the format you use)... Hugs, Terre

Tavanna,
I have a Brother machine which uses the Pes format. My machine does not connect to the computer, so I use a reader/writer (Vikant Ultimate Box) software to download designs from the computer onto the chip that fits into my machine.

As far as viewing designs, I purchased the Embird basic software for approx. $120, and it does so much, I do not know how I ever lived without it. I use Embird to convert formats, merge designs, minimally increase/decrease designs, to print paper copy of actual design for aligning design onto fabric for stitching, etc. Embird has several plugins that will enable you to learn to digitize and more, whenever one is ready for those steps. But, the only plugin I have purchased is the Iconizer (approx. $20) that allows me to view actual size full color designs within the folders to where I have downloaded them, rather than opening the folders to see only pes icons. One cannot beat Embird for its features and cost. I love my basic Embird and its Iconizer. You may want to check them out at www.embird.com to see just what can be done with this program. For the cost, it is fantastic!

Welcome tavanna! Til you get some software, there are 2 free programs that you can use to view what you have dl, one at a time. Depending on what software the designs were created in, the colors may not be the same in your format as what you saw on the picture, so a method of changing them is nice. Don't delete any of what you have found, it will all be viewable in the right software.

Thank you for the info Jo. I did download the sewwhat program as some of the others suggested I do However the colors did not look the same as I had viewed. I am new to embroidery and have a far way to go. Does that mean that I will have to change the colors .for example I dl a raccoon and his fur looks pink. I will be using the SE400 which has a pes format. Ty for any help you can give.

Lots of times what the machine sees and what the computer sees as colors are not the "real" colors. I say they are "color blind). You may want to start keeping a copy of the designs as they were stitched out so you have a guide for the "right" colors. I use cutepdf (a free program) that makes a .pdf out of any web page, etc. and keep that with the design so I can refer to it later. You may alsow want to print off the "color chart" that comes with many designs (including things from the Cute family). They can be helpful too.

Sew Iconz comes from Sandscomputing it is very reasonably priced and does a very good job. The owner is very good and the yahoo group offers lots of help as well. His other products are also fantastic and quite simple to use. I have both sew iconz and sew what pro. Lisa

Hi, Ty for the information and the welcome. Just ordered the Brother SE400 and so this is a new adventure for me. Sewed for many years but never took the embroidery jump, LOL. I was under the impression that since this machine has the usb port there would be no need for the PE Design Program. Is that correct? However, you have all answered that getting a program of some sort will show the images in my folder. In not having a program does that anyway interfer with the designs I have extracted to my folder? As of now my designs are just listed by name and when I open them it appears that the text is the pattern. Do you think I will have to download them again with the program and delete the ones I have? And, if I do not get a program will the designs I have downloaded still work with the machine, it has not been delivered yet. I was just trying to get a head start on preparing a file of embroidery designs. Thank you in advance for any help you can give this newbie.

You do not need PE design or a box or card if the machine has a USB port. Everything you have downloaded so far is still good and you don't need an extra program to use them (you do to see the pictures in my computer, or resize, etc. - but you have several suggestions about a program for that)

I personally use Buzz Xplore to view my designs, I really like it but I have nothing to compare it to as I have never used anything else.

It is wonderful but rather expensive when you can get the Sew Iconz for $20.

Yes, you need an embroidery program to see images as icons in "my computer". Something like the "sewwhat" version or the iconizer that goes with Embird. I have the Embird one (www.embird.com). Several places sell the sew what program - including sandscomputing.com and stitchesinmotion.ca. I have not bought from either but know they sell it.
