Hospitals use water soluble laundry bags that are made of exactly the same material! We went together and bought a whole box and got them for a great price. Each bag is about 40" by 30" and cost about $1 each. That is the size doubled! It gives you a nice, big size. I usually use a double layer, which is almost as thick as the expensive Super Solvy! Just had to share! Jan

I know I am a late responder on this, but I have found the water soluble laundry bags work so much better than expensive water soluble stabilizer that I purchased. I just made a lot of FSL Easter eggs. The only ones that I had problems with were the ones I made using the high dollar sheets of stabilizer. The water soluble laundry bags ROCK! I thought it may be helpful to bring this up to the top (it took me a long time to find this kind of advice).

Great stuff. I was introduce to this 3 years ago and only use that on towels and fleece materiaal. Works fantastic.

Have you tried it on fsl?

marietta by marietta 22 Nov 2010

FSL you have to use more layers, but it works like a bom on toweling and fleece.

I purchse Vilene at the Price of $5.50 is per yard and is 59" wide. Minimum order is 3 yards AND shipping is free within the USA. I will stick with that. I might consider them as a topping for towels etc. but not for FSL

Thank you, It is always nice to know about alternative things to use. I hate that you have to buy only what the sewing shop has, because they push their top prices. I dont use WWS on my towels.

Thanks for the tip and the feedback of others - I was wondering about them (had seen them on some site someplace). I will stick with Vilene.

Read about it, This one does NOT work as they say, save your money and buy vilene. Some of these bags even have the detergent built into them along with other chemicals. I'm glad I just bought one and not a whole box.

I have used these often, and never had any problems with it.

hightechgrammy by hightechgrammy 23 Nov 2010

The ones I have don't have any detergent. They work better for me than any of the commercial stabilizers. Is Vilene the sa me as Super Solvy?? I'll read the article, thanks!

Been doing that for years - was a lady at our quilting guild who was selling them - in SA they cost R12 each as opposed to buying Avalon at R20 pm (which is only 8 inches wide). Remember it is not suitable for all applications - it is used mainly over toweling or fleece if you want to embroider over pile fabrics!FSL I still prefer the Vilene

Where do you get it from?

karenz by karenz 16 Feb 2011

I got so excited about this (I sell embroidered towels) that I asked for a quote from a supplier. 5 bags in a pack which costs R370.00. Minimum order = 200 packs. Total cost - R62,000! I wish I was selling enough towels to justify this. I could retire tomorrow. LOL!

elizabethak by elizabethak 16 Feb 2011

Got mine from Bernina PE. They embroider towels and use it with no problem

karenz by karenz 16 Feb 2011

Thanks. I'll ask my Bernina store.

I bought one and had Shirlene try it out because my machine was down at the time. Before you buy a large amount be sure they will work on your machine. She did not have any luck with it and I felt bad because she wasted her time and thread . I even got it from an embroidery site who said how great it was. It was'nt. Don't want to rain on your parade but i would hate to see someone spend that much on a box of these and have them not work. Will you show a project made with this?

Sporry didn't respond - got mine from Bernina. Works fine on toweling & fleece. /use on top so the emroidery doesn't get "lost" in the pile. Would still use tearaway or washaway vilene for the bottom (under).
