I have embird and I like it, it is true that i have not "play" with it a lot, but I have done some very, very simple projects and I like it. If you have PE design give it a try, I know it is not a cheap program.
Thanks everybody for the comments. I will check everything out first and take some more time to learn PE 7. I probably wouldn't go out and buy anything for a while yet, have to save my pennies first. *'s to you all.
my friend has some software which goes with her Janome. She said the directions were useless. Now she scans a drawing, such as the ones you find in pattern books or kids colouring-in books. Then she fills the areas with the required stitch patterns. However, I'm sure it's not as simple as that!!!
Digitising takes loads and loads of practice. We all learn differently and personally I find the book with the softwear dire reading. I think we all want to run before we can walk and have too high an aspiration befre we are ready. I would stick with your PE 7 as it was not cheap. There are people like Sue Lough about http://www.memories-in-thread.net... who have put how to digitise onto CD's so you can watch as you have a go. This is probably easier if you can have 2 computers on the go at a time. I use my PE 5 quite a lot for the fonts and all the fonts in my computer, plus increasing or decreasing pattern sizes. Have fun and good luck with digitising how ever you go about it. Meganne on Cute will have some good advice, plus she is a fellow Aus Cutie (I am not) Meganne is busy moving house at the moment but PM her for advice and she willget back to you.
And a last comment - did the dealer you got your machine from sell you the softwear/PE design and do they have classes for digitising or know where there are some locally to you?
Yes the software came as a bonus with the machine. The dealer had said that when a class was available they would contact me, but it was dependant on numbers though, so I rang the dealer and she had said that there were still not enough people to hold a class. But she did say that she could do "one on one" class for $30 an hour. But unfortunately at the time it was too expensive for me. But I will check out the website you suggested and persevere.
I have Pe Design 6 and just love it .My manual shows me everything.
We have a group that meet once a month. Ladies that have up to v8 only have a few extras then mine.

Ingrid,
I have not tried my hand at digitizing yet, but still have hopes of learning one day. I purchased basic Embird and know that I can add the Studio for digitizing when I feel I am ready. I have a friend who digitizes now with the Generations software, but she learned on the much less expensive Embird. She told me Embird was a great way to learn to digitize for the cost/investment. She said Generations was considerably expensive and she liked it, but until one is sure they want to digitize long term, she recommended Embird. I truly love my basic Embird and its plug-in Iconizer.

I have Palette which came with my machines, but I am computer stupid so depend on our talented folks for designs.
I use Generations, I have never used anything else, it is a big learning curve so you really need to devote the time to learn. Try to find some tutorials, Artistic threadworks which I believe a site owned by a cutie has tutorials (link below). Generations is expensive but in my opinion worth it.
You can also get info from Echidna it is in Capalaba, Queensland, but if you are a member of the platnum club you get free shipping anywhere in Australia.
