Why do visitors vote for the CURRENT free letter? For example, if letter A is free today, why do people vote for it to be the free letter AGAIN tomorrow?

I think it might be a combination of everyones answers. We have all read remarks about timezone differences and trouble getting designs. Since english is my only language and I have been on other sites in different countries that too could be a problem. I know how lost I feel on those sites. Maybe patience is the key. I know most are understanding and helpful but occasionally someone will jump in and be a little on the harsh side. Feelings are hurt and the urge to participate becomes dampened. This is one of the most friendly, helpful sites out there and I for one would like to keep it that way. PATIENCE and KINDNESS go a long, long way.

I certainly don't know about everyone, but I know someone (who will remain nameless, don't worry my friend!) who believed that she needed to vote for the design before she was allowed to download it. She is (as others have speculated) someone for whom English is a second language. We worked through her confusion, so she doesn't make that error anymore, but there are probably lots of others like her still out there. =]

Mops, I think your logic is sound. I think it's both, all the different time zones around the world, and maybe people not understanding that they're voting for a free design, not just voting that it's a "really nice" design. I wasn't exactly sure how any of this worked till I'd been on the site for a while. And language can be quite a barrier, too.

Could it have anything to do with people living in different time zones and voting during the morning in Europe while the new design comes up at around 5 p.m. there? I noticed when I tried to vote early because i won't have the time later in the day the letters still carry the message "voted".

from the evening before. Ah, I think my logic is not very sound. Maybe jrob is right and it is the language barrier.

Perhaps the voting is done by people with limited English ability, and they are voting that they like the design.

Perhaps it's not the same ones voting that download and they don't understand how it works. There are many, many people who come on the site that don't speak/read English as a first language, so maybe it's not clear to them. I admire them greatly for even trying.

Maybe that doesn't have anything at all to do with it!

Maybe they did not down load it, thus they vote again. Otherwise I do not know.
