transfer them to a SD card through a card reader. I have been doing this since I learned ME. Last week my second card reader "died" and I purchased a new one at Target (didn't get the cheapest but didn't get the most expensive either). I plugged in my new card reader and the computer dings and tells me new device found. I go to Customizer and click Write design and the SD is there but I can't find the Memory Stick. I go to My Computer and it happens to be called "G" and I open it. BLANK!! I am in panic mode but properties tells me it is 98% full. I use safely remove device and remove both devices. I just plug in the Memory Stick and all the designs are there. I plug in the card reader and now I cannot see anything but a blank screen when I look at the memory stick. I do this several times same result. My must remove both devices and just have the memory stick installed to see the designs on the memory stick. I have a work around where I put the design I want to write to the SD card on the computer elsewhere, remove the memory stick, plug in the card reader, write the design, remove the card reader device etc. I don't think it is part of the problem but I will mention we had storms on Saturday but the house did not lose power and I have a surge protector. I was trying to write these two designs Sunday afternoon. Thanks in advance for your help. Becky

I understand the panic attack when a blank screen comes up. I have software to organize my designs. So they are on the desktop and the laptop computers and on an external hard drive and soon will also be backed up on another external hard drive. You will soon have far too many designs to store on a memory stick. So start organizing and sacing to other software. I also have a back-up battery which is an additional surge protector on the desktop and for my machines. I highly recommend getting at least 1.

Thank you. I do have my designs backed up on CD. Somewhere I was told not to store on my computer hard drive. Don't remember why now but I did move all the files to a folder on my computer last night.

Why not transfer the designs from the memory stick to a folder on your PC? There good reasons for this. You will then have a backup of your designs. Memory sticks are not a permanent storage device and should not be relied upon. You should then be able to transfer designs to your SD card through the card reader.

Thank you I did that last night. I have not tried transfering any designs just yet. Busy with other "stuff" last night. Becky

Did you get a disc with your card reader? I don't use these things because I don't need a card for my machine but I do have a bit of a clue about computers. you may need to install the drivers for your card reader. you can do this in a few different ways depending on what version of window you are running, if you have a mac then I am clueless. But try this, assuming you have a cd that came with your card reader put it in your disc drive. make sure the card reader is plugged in to the computer. Turn you computer of then on again. you should get a pop up bubble at the bottom right of you screen saying something about windows has detected new hardware. click on that. then follow the prompts, tell it to install automatically. I have had a bit of a rough day and too much wine so I will leave it there and check back tomorrow (Brisbane Aus time) to see if you have come up with a solution. I will not be surprised if sciencewiddow has responded with something that is much more clear than what I have said.

Alice, this is my third card reader and I have never had cd with any of them. I haven't tried turning on the computer with the card reader plugged in. I will try that. Hope you are feeling better tommorrow.

I have found sometimes your computer just does not like a device you have plugged in, and fails to recognize it. It appears that the memory stick and card reader and the computer just are not getting along. I'd buy a different card reader and try that, or put the designs on my C drive then transfer from there to the SD card. I frequently have an external drive that is always plugged in, that the computer can't recognize. I unplug it, plug it back in again, and it sees it again. I'd be making back ups of my memory stick too. I've had memory sticks fail too. No wonder I'm paranoid about losing my data.

Thank you. Sometimes computers can be so picky. I copied all the files to a file on my desktop last night. My computer is old and doesn't have much memory. I am afraid my computer will die and take all my designs with it. I will probably continue to store on both the memory stick (I have a bunch) and the computer. Becky
