Does Rick qualify for Medicare? I found this article on the web... If he has Cobra... I don't know if they would let him apply for it. But maybe you could try.
I hope that the Lord provides a way for him to purchase it, or that someone donates it to him. There must be some organization somewhere that could help. I'll definitely be praying for the both of you.

P.S. I've had it ever since I had an Achilles Tendon reattachment 4 years ago! Don't get it unless I wear flat shoes, so I always wear a little heel!

Oh Chris, isn't that amazing? I can't wear heels - because of my bad back and knees. I do have a little soft insole that I wear in the heel of my shoe - that helps some. Thanks dear one.
234256Here is another picture of part of my heel trouble - if you can imagine all those red places inflamed and swollen - you will understand why I can't walk on this and also this is the same foot as the broken toe and here is another video that you can see the difference in the use and without - however - Rick's drop foot is much worse than this man's in the video:
211078Caroline, what a sweetie to ask. Rick has been released from his Occupational Therapist, she said there wasn't any improvement in his arm/hand - which is so sad to think that he will never use them again. The Physical Therapist that took over for the one that was going to release him - has been working Rick rather hard - he has been using a new device called the bioness - perhaps you have seen something on it - on the TODAY Show - Rick's doctor wanted him to be in a study for the boiness, but he has that filter still from the blood clots (he will have that the rest of his life) it has a small metal loop at the tip of it - for removal of in the first 2 months (Rick's can't be removed now) - so Rick couldn't be in the study. We have been trying to figure out a way - that we could get the boiness for Rick - it is rather expensive and we are sure that the insurance that we now have through Cobra will not cover the cost of it - but we are going to try - Rick has a doctor's appointment on Tuesday - we will look into how we can go about getting the NESS L300NESS L300 at that time
As for me, my toe is healing but still very sore - the awful thing is - that I have been walking mostly on my heal - so that flared up my old Plantar Fasciitis and now my heal is swollen and now I can't walk on the heal of my foot either - which has given my a back and neck ache - so to tell you the truth - I look like the one that needs the therapy and it isn't funny - but it is - Hehehe!
We would appreciate prayers for Rick to receive this bioness - so that he can begin to walk normally again - it is a wonderful device and he has had so much help from it - in the short time that he can use it at the rehab center.

Thanks for letting us know what is happening. What you are talking about is something I have not heard about. I have just watched the programme via the link you gave. It was amazing, I hope that there is someway that you are able to get this for Rick. Thanks also for the update on yourself. It is only when something goes wrong that we realise how important good health is and we take it for granted. Will keep up the positive thoughts for you both

Judy, thanks - this device has been working wonders for Rick in therapy - but he needs it full time for it to really strengthen his tone of his muscle and to allow him to be strong enough to walk without the drop foot and knee weekness. It is truly an amazing device. We so appreciate your prayers.

So many of us have had this, and those that have not had can not realize the pain that goes along with this. I was told to freeze a bottle of water, and roll the arch and heel of the foot on that in the evnings. It helps with some of th sweeling and pain. Hope it can work for you too. I was also told that I should never wear flat heels - guess that means I shouldn't go bare footed, either? LOL But when I know that I am going to walk a lot, I stick with New Balance tennis shoes - Man it hurts to get old. LOL Hugs

Beth, you are so right about that - it does hurt to get old - I have been using both hot and cold treatments - they are helping some. I also have New Balance shoes, they are getting pretty old, however. I am only hoping that the doctor and the insurance company go with the device for Rick at this time. Everything else falls into place sooner or later - but we have to get him walking right again.
