It has rained most of the night. The flood water was lapping my driveway. It is also garbage day both bins recycle and waste. I looked at the end of my street and there are garbage bins floating down the road. I have lived here for the last 10 years and never has my street flooded. Cannot believe people were still driving through and getting stuck as the taxi who should know better. I came back inside and this is where I am staying. The water has now receded but a bit scary thought next thing I would have water through my house.

Thinking about you. It is worth thinking of having a plan of action just in case you should get flooded. I have a friend who when she sells her house will be able to say it didnot flood when much of the rest of the area she lives in did. BUT hope for your sake hope you never are flooded as it is pretty awful

Hope water recedes and doesn't get in your home. In my area in the USA we are 11 to 12 inches shy on rainfall this year...whole state is under a burn ban. Therefore we could use some of your rain for sure but don't need the flooding. Stay safe as I didn't realize your area has had so much rainfall. Swift moving water is dangerous so you really don't need to be out in it but keep a watch on your situation...hope all turns out well.

Many different comments already to the degree of water. I have never had to suffer any of this kind of tragedy - thank goodness. Hope everyone makes out OK.
Even here in Canada there are some places that are really wet. My aunt (from two provinces over) said she has never - in all her days of gardening- seen anything like this. She went to check the potatoes as everything was so wet from all the rain. She dug up a few potatoes and they were huge and when she opened one to see what it was like - water gushed out of it! So she figures they'll be lucky to have enough potatoes to do them until xmas.
Good luck to everyone!

I've just seen the early news. I am hoping that none of our Cute Members have been too badly affected in as much as having their homes awash with muddy water and their cars in water up to the wheeltops or the door handles. I was stunned .... 300mm in 24 hours, and another place had a month's worth of Spring Rain in one night!!!
South Australian farming land is looking towards having good rains, too, later in the week, but I hope we don't have the flood devastation that is occurring along the eastern seaboard.
How terrible if a sewing person had her home and sewing room, machines and fabric, flooded with mud or a wood turner had his shed, wood and machinery flooded out or a knitter had all her wool stash soaked in reddish/brown water.
And as for children playing in drains during the floods!!!.... that really scares me, not only for them being swept away and killed but for coming face to face with a scared snake, one of those Queensland specials, and being bitten.
I came home from my sewing lesson on a real high, having achieved for once, and I've been plunged into deep despair for my fellow-Aussies who are battling Spring Rains right now. I know that with good old Aussie-spirit they will take it in their stride and work through it all but........ I do feel so badly for them right now.....

Sally Emma is fine but they had to tie down their cement water tank that has floated out of the ground nearly hitting the house. Otherwise all ok,

That's awful! cement tank moved just shows how much water and how strong it can be....my prayers are with them. Sally

beatie58 by beatie58 11 Oct 2010

I am still in awe of the fact they needed to tie down a cement tank which without water would weigh a tonne...as long as they are OK...Hugs Sally

my goodness now I knew we have had a lot of rain, but moving the water tank is something else.

Oh Dear! I am so glad you did NOT get flooded out.
I haven't been watching the news so had no idea about the rain up there.

Now I am wondering if not getting Flood coverage on our insurance for our new home is possibly not the best thing to do. It's over $3,000 (yearly) just for the flood cover and another $1,500 (yearly) for ordinary cover.
It's no wonder people don't buy flood coverage insurance, but imagine if you lost everything, how devastating that would be!

I will pray for everyone to be OK, that is the main thing.
Hugs and blessings, Meganne

Meganne, I know where you are coming from the creek nearby broke its banks about a year ago and I rang the council and was told it would take 100 year flood to come up and into my house well it is almost there today, I think as it lapped the next door neighbour doorstep so I am thinking maybe flood insurance would be a good thing...Hugs

My Aunt and Uncle lived on the Ohio River and had their home flooded many times. They did have a plan and installed a hook in the ceiling and would pull their grand piano to the ceiling and then move every thing else upstairs. Each time they would mark the water level on a door frame and pull off the wet walls. They never got used to the inconvenient but they liked where they lived in an old Victorian House with 20 foot (6 meters) ceilings. Hope this never happens to your neighborhood again. Waiting for the water to go down must have been very stressful.

It is miserable isn't it, it is making me so depressed When will the rain stop. To think 18 months ago everyone was panicking about the water shortage, and the government put us all on level 6 water restrictions, I could have told them it would rain again. I have not heard that they have lifted the water restrictions but they have let some water out of the damn.
