Getting ready to do a couple for Halloween and not sure if I should wash them before I stitch them or only afterwards (to get out the WSS topper and sticky bottom). Thanks for your advice.

I wash and dry all everything I'm going to embroider as I don't want any shrinkage to ruin my designs.

I washed my Halloween towels because of the color bleeds. Too, I was doing applique so I wanted to make sure that the fabric and towels would be less likely to shrink after the emboirdery was done. Most often I do ot use anthing on top, and I use a wash away/tearaway stabilizer on the back. Then, i don't have stablizer that shows when I give the towel as a gift.

I'm afraid to wash before as the towel might turn out to be second hand. I supply to a home industry!
The samples done washed without any problems

It is a very good idea to wash..I purchased some dish towels that shriveled up so bad, I was glad I had not embroidered them first...the colors may also run...good luck.

I wash all items that I embroider - when I use WSS as a topper or on the bottom - I wash them again.

I wash to take the sizing out. In fact, I wash everything before I embroider on it--just in case there is any shrinkage.

I always wash the towels first, following the adage in quilting, "prewash" and "dry" before working on anything. LOL

I have been told if you "use it" wash before embroidering.
