I see so many problems with metallic threads, i feel no to used them but I always read tips, these are very good, hope you can solve the problem
As suggested you could try stitching on WS Stabilizer on top to hold the stitches above the embroidery or try stitching over the first lsyer of metallic thread a second time using a new layer of stabilizer underneath or a water soluble stabilizer under neath.
You may have problems depending on the density of the stitches of the first layer of stitches done in metallic.
The other thing to mention is that there are many colors and shades of colors for metallic thread and they do very from Brand to Brand.
For Gold you may find that another shade of gold is lighter or brighter and shows up better, the same with the red for the heart.
You could just try lowering the top thread tension just a bit when you stitch the metallic parts of the design to see if the metallic stitches stay on top more and don't sink in so much.
Here is the other post you made asking about what Brand of metallic threads everyone likes and uses.
I posted there saying that I recently tried the Kingstar Metallic thread and like it alot.
Other posted what they use too.
Read the answers to you question at this link.

I only used this once, and when I did, I slowed down my machine(lowest speed) and used WSS on top. Good luck with your project!
Great post--thanks for all the tips. A while back someone said they used a foam peanut and threaded the metallic thread through it between the spindle and the first thread guide, but that was to keep the thread from breaking. WWS should keep the thread from sinking in.
I do not know the brands you are using but if your metalic thread is finer than your other embroidery threads then it will sink into the thicker threads. I have various brands and even though they say they are the same weight some are finer than others. Also use a very fine bobbin thread,80 if you can get it because the thicker the bobbin thread the more it pulls and flattens the top threads reducing the shine on them. I would also do as others have suggested use WSS under the metalic stitches to help them stand out. You may also try restitching over the metalic stitches a second time. Some brands are definetly more shinny than others, for the look you whant you may have to try another. Good luck.
Thank you it is a good idea to restitch a second time with the metallic.
What brands are more shinny?
I have downloaded 2 pictures in Projects where I used metallic thread: square for flower project, and wedding Chloe-Gtancis a cushion for rings.I put them just below
1 around the heart of flowers i had used metallic gold, and the stitches had sink among the red ones nearby, then, I have embroidered just over with yellow ordinary, and you can see that this one is well visible.
2 The heart was embroidered with metallic red, and it is not at all shiny
Perhaps you could post a picture of a stitch out that you used with the metallic thread so we could see what you are talking about.
That may give us a better idea about what you are seeing or not seeing in the designs with metallic thread.

What kind of designs are you doing with the metallic thread that you think it is sinking into the other stitches.
Have you thought to try a different less dense design and see what the difference is.
Perhaps just lowering you top thread tension down just a bit will give a better stitch with the metallic thread and allow it to show up more.
Remember to set the top thread tension back to the normal setting for stitching with other embroidery thread.
Do you use metallic needles for the thread when stitching with it?
I use a number 12/80 metallic needle.
I have a Designer 1 also.

I will try to lower the tesion, I use mettalic needle, perhaps I must take a new brand of metallic thread, which brand mtallic thread do you use for your designer1?
I used to have problems but ever since a 'cutie' posted the easiest cure I'm hooked! They now have needles that say 'metallic' on them, it has a really large eye, also move your thread further away from the machine if possible. I use my thread stand (the kind for the jumbo spools of thread), slow down your machine and poof you should be set. Good luck......
Thank you really I have no problem of breakage, but it is the appearance of the embroidery with matallic thread which is bad
What kind of fabric are you stitching on with the Metallic thread that you think the stitching is sinking into?
What machine do you have.
EastWitch2
My machine is Husqvarna designer1, and I have used a fabric of coton, not so thin, the stitch seems to sink among the stitches nearby, and they do not look shiny, perhaps I have to try another brand
What brand of thread are you using? H&*
I have superior thread and thread delight. Do you prefer a definite brand?
thanks, for asking this question as I needed to know what the answer was also....thanks everyone for your answers.....*4 all of U
Claude,
when embroidering with metallic thread I lower the tension on my Designer1 to 2.4 or even 2.2. You can do that just for the gold and set the tension back to the default for the other colours.

There is a very good tutorial on Emilibrary in he Christmas Club section that started today...this has very good hints to emb with metallics.
You can use the heat and gone stabilizer on top being very careful how close you get the iron.
If your designs are sinking into your fabric then you should be using a wss on top of your fabric, emb and then remove wss. If you don't want to get your fabric wet you can use a wet q-tip next to the emb. to melt away the wss. Hope is is clearer than mud as I don't always say things quite right. Have a blessed day.
