by shirlener88 19 Sep 2010

Olly, by now it is Saturday - where you are - you have already turned 50 and now you know and can share that with all of us - WHAT IS IT LIKE BEING 50 OLLY?

As for me - it wasn't any different than when I turned 30, 40, or even 60 - it was just a birthday - a day to celebrate my life - good times were many and I still have some, too. When my grandmother was turning 75 and running around with the younger crowd - people in their 60's, I would ask her - why she did that - she told me - that she felt younger than she was - if she was with younger people - everyone thought she was younger, it helped keep her younger, too. Have a great birthday and don't let the number mess you up dear one - you are who you are - inside and out - have fun and live life to the fullest. I didn't get married to my husband until I was 52, so who knows what might happen for you in the next few years - it took me a long while to enjoy what God wanted me to have - I kept thinking it was something that I didn't have - now I know - he was trying to get me to the place he wanted me - not the place I thought I wanted to go. Celebrate today and each day that you have that follows today.

Oh thank you so much Shirlene. I am very blessed to have a husband and children who love me and I thank God for them every day. The best present I got was a card with little messages written by my 19 year old and my 13 year old. They were from the heart and will be treasured. We went out to a traditional German restaurant (even though I am in Australia). The restaurant is located in an old refurbished church. The wooden beams, vesticule and ornate ceilings are still in place. It was lovely and we ate as a chap clad in traditional German leather pants yodled as he played the piano accordian. I feel no different today to what I did yesterday. As a friend once told me "Once you're over the hill my dear, you get a better view".

Ahhh--it's all maintenance from here on out. You'll go the doctor a lot more than you ever did for piddly picky things, and routine tests.
You are wiser. Hopefully, your children have left the nest, and you can hear yourself think again, and have the time to explore what you want to do with the rest of your life.

Happy birthday for Saturday and I hope you enjoy the day. As far as turning 50 goes it is just a number and no different from turning any other age. Age is what you make of it and the same goes for life. Enjoy and don't worry about numbers. I am over 50 and haven't looked back yet and don't intend to. Have a great day and enjoy.

its fantastic being 50, you know why????? its simply because you are alive. just think if you had not been able to have reached this age all the things you would never have done and the fantastic people you would have missed talking to.
just wait till you get to 63 and find you have learnt so much more since this day.
When iwas only 50 i could not use a computer or talk for free to anyone abroad, in fact i didn't know anyone abroad to speak to and now i have just so many friends that i ahve never met but can share so much with.
happy birthday for saturday its the same day as mine. and may you have many more return dates

Enjoy life no matter what age you are and always think young, and you will stay young!

50 is just another wonderful number. I quit caring about numbers as an ominous thing when I turned the dreaded 30. It is just another number... A wonderful one no matter what it is! So I hope you have the most wonderful birthday ever! :)

Have a Happy Bday, I been celebrating 50 for over 9.5 yrs so now I get to celebrate 60 in December. although I don't feel that old. I have decided you can feel as old or young as you want to. It's that one little thing that get s you. Your body don't always agree with the mind. But have a great day. Look at it this way it's a new adventure.

*It is easier to get older than it is to get wiser.

*I've discovered that I started out with nothing and I still have most of it.

I finally got my head together, now my body is falling apart.

*I wish the buck stopped here. I sure could use a few.

My wild oats have turned to prunes and All Bran.

I don't remember being absent minded.

The only time the world beats a path to your door is if you're in the bathroom.

Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.

Everything hurts, and what doesn't hurt doesn't work.

I feel like the morning after and I haven't been anywhere.

A dripping faucet causes an uncontrollable bladder urge.

My mind makes contracts my body can't keep.

I look forward to a dull evening.

The gleam in my eye is from the sun hitting my bifocals.

Oh no--now I'm depressed--sorry Olly :) Have a great day :)

by quilter124 16 Sep 2010

I'm thinking mel08 has the right idea....just 50 with 11 years experience...that is me....I loved turning 50...as I was in the middle of my last career job and it was a great time in my life. My kids were going off to college and I was so proud of them and I was able to do some things I wanted to do, not the things I needed and gratefully did for them, but now at 61 I am starting a whole new life in embroidery and I am having a ball. I think it is a matter of mind over body and the love of our Father that gives me the energy and talent that I have. I taught children in high school whose parents were younger than me and in such ill health and acting like they were in the 70's but that is their fault. My dad passed away last year at 96 and he never slowed until his last 6 months. My mom will be 90 in Dec. so I better enjoy getting old. I do and now I can wear the red or the purple or the black or the yellow or whatever I please. Just do your thing with the Lord by your side and it will be an easy ride.....right cuties......!!!

OH I so loved my fifties, they were the best years of my life. I had a ball, working, dating, dancing & dining, my last fling before retirement and age started creeping up on me.

Now in my Sixties, I'm not feeling as healthy or as fit and I have far more aches and pains and a lot less get up and go, don't even have the inclination to get up and go most of the time. LOL!!!

Enjoy your fifties, make the most of them and try and stay healthy.
They are the fun years of a woman's life.
No worries about unwanted pregnancies, the kids should have left home so you can recapture the magic with your husband, (or find a new one) and quite possibly you will discover the greatest joy of all......

GRANDCHILDREN!

Yes, the fifties are fantastic!!!

As for being fifty I forgot what it was like. Just kidding. I was just up and running after a hernia and my kids were joking they'd give me a cane as a birthday present and I'd better ask my hubby for a wheelchair. Luckily I did not need either of those then or now. :)

After all that you can wear and do what you want, I probably wear jeans that are too tight and too young for me and I wear my sneakers that the teens wear and though I love red and purple, I just personally wouldn't be caught dead in the red and purple together, lol!
