stabilizer, carefully positioned the hoop, loaded the design, choose the threads - a job in itself! - and started to stitch. All was fine until I left to answer the phone. Just a tiny bit of hem got caught, then wrapped itself around the foot, the safety device activated and the only way to clear the mess was to cut the t-shirt. Thank goodness it was a trial run with a charity shop 50p purchase. Think I'll leave it till tomorrow now.

Don't worry "amazinggrace" I think we've all done something like that before in our attempts to get something done asap. I actually did that a few years ago on a t-shirt I don't think I had the right stabliser and it sunk into the dogfeed!!!!!!!!!! disaster - threw it away but mine was a dear one - but lesson learned I've never done it again.

Love and blessings Chris

Seems like our machines know when we get up from them....guess it's a little game they play with us like when the cat's away the mice will play. Sure causes a headache sometimes. I've started bringing my phone to my machine so I don't have to get up. BTW...sometimes we get so involved in our sewing that we forget to stand and move around a little and it's something we should all do so that we won't have back problems down the road...just a healthy word of advice.

Loved reading all these stories...just too close to home. I am new to this, but my first t-shirt was to put our church logo and church name on 5 shirts for my husband to wear on his mission team work in New Mexico. I got the first one done and it looked so good and I was so proud, then to do the next. Well nothing went right it seemed and before long I was ripping and since it was so thin, there emerged a very tiny hole that began to grow....so out came all the stitches and I looked forever to find an applique cross design freebie and hallalula it was covered and only he and I and the machine knew what it had done....by the way the other 3 worked like a charm.....

Sorry for the mistake; they only happen when we leave the machines for a moment.

Happened to me just the other day, a halloween design, all stitched out except the last candy corn, stepped away-HONEST-5 seconds, foot got stuck and the whole thing started moving. Anyone know where to get candy corn buttons-!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, after reading all the responses I am not feeling so bad about my screw ups, a whole lot of you have been at this much longer than me and have much more expensive machines and still get the same problems! Oh well, another t-shirt, another day!

Sorry that happened. It is the machine that is telling you that it is lonely!!!

I think your machine has the same disease as mine. It's always afraid I will abandon him(or her?) as soon as I leave the room it will start making problems to get my attention again. So if I do have to leave it behind I pause the embroidery.

I do know. Just yesterday I was trying to make a last minute gift for my GS before we left for the party, got it all situated, stuck and pinned to the stabilizer, under the foot without stabbing myself on those pins, started the first color, and UH OH, forgot to rotate the design! After I unpicked the threads, and restarted, it all came out fine. Pshew!

Someone I was on a sewing retreat with started out putting a pig upside down on a market bag, but saved it by adding wording -'Pigs might Fly!' -a great save :)

I had a day like that yesterday. I had not used my machine for over a week but decided to do a design that a friend requested. I had done it before so I didn't test it. I started out and the tension seemed off. Ruined that piece, changed the bobbin, changed the upper thread, changed the stabilizer, ruined another piece. Took the bobbin case apart and the upper part of the machine also, when I had it all back together I suddenly realized my problem. I had failed to change the presser foot! I was trying to embroider with a regular sewing foot. Color me Stupid! I did manage to save the two botched pieces with another applique design.

Don't you just hate that? LOL I am beginning to discover these machines do have a mind of their own if we aren't careful... Just like kids, leave them for a minute and you've got a mess. hehehe....Hope tomorrow is a better day....

My janome-diva also needs full attention or she will find a way to get them :o(
New day - new chance ; Better lick tomorrow ;-)
Greetings, Bettina
PS: Mine likes to fix the thread on top of the machine and take the bobbin instead; no alarm and a plain white embroidery...
