I digitised this butterfly and Lenamay stitched it out for me - see picture 2. The mylar did not show through enough in the original, so I lowered the density of the filling stitch and added another line to make it a little more interesting.

You do it like you would do an applique and carefully tear away the mylar when finished. I haven't yet used mylar myself, so maybe some of the others can correct me if necessary.
