stitch (hardanger) fabric, and do you try to line up the holes on the hardanger fabric? Thanks for all your help and advice ! Charlotte :-)

Aida cloth would be hard to match. I agree with the majority and use cotton. However, using a linen or "duck cloth" or cotton twill, might give it more of an aida cloth handmade look. Terre

I have used the baby bibs, fingertip towels, etc that have the cross stitch area "built in" and they came out quite nicely.

I use Irish Linen for my hand-xstitch designs, and they turn out just lovely.

As for machine xstitch, I agree with the others who say to stick with just fabric, and not attempt Aida Cloth because of the difficulty trying to align the stitches.

thanks! that's the problem I was wondering about that-even it WAS possible to align the holes....hehe great...now I get to start collecting the cross-stitch designs...as IF I actually need to start collecting something else....hehe :-)

I use regular fabric. A Husqvarna representative once showed me a Aida 'ribbon' embroidered with an anchor and rope design she'd digitised in 3D Cross Stitcher. It was done in the Endless Hoop and lining it up was easy according to her. You can set the height and width of the cross stitch, but even so I think it must have been quite a job to get it perfect!

I agree with mops. I often thought about trying it but never did. It would also depend upon whether you can adjust the size to the size of the Aida cloth.

I don't use Aida cloth, I use whatever! Just make sure you stablilize well as crosstitch is pretty dense.
Not sure how you would line up Aida cloth, except for the ones that are marked for that. I think ABC designs denotes what size they are.....but I could be wrong about which site does.

As for myself I have not even thought of this but then again I don't have but a few of the cross stitch designs. I would think that it would be very hard to get it to line up though. But hey you don't know till you try. I say try it and you will see. That is the only way to satisfy your curiosity. I like a challenge sometimes. Good luck. Sara

I think it would be interesting to try to use CXS fabric for maybe a sampler, or a jar cover. Not sure if it would line up perfectly but I love to experiment anyways. Trying new things is half of the fun for me.
I have used xs designs on shirts and blankets and they turn out quite lovely.

Well i have done lots of hand embroidery in the past and some cross stitch with the machine.
I have used ordinary material for the machine as i think it will be next to impossible to line up and get stitches in the holes of the hardanger.
I love the result with cross stitch. Try some of ellen maurer stroh x-stitch freebees are beautiful.
This at least is my opinion. lol

That's a good question. I keep telling myself I should try some of the Aida I used for hand cross stitching - but haven't yet, then we all need a goal to achieve don't we, hahahahah.
