Where do you go for your blank kitchen towels? Are you able to purchase from local stores or online? I know embroiderthis is a good place. Just curious. Carol

I got a bunch at the Dollar Tree, well, to be honest, I cleaned one out and hit other ones too! They had some with vertical stripes that have enough room between the stripes for designs, I put 2 designs on each that would hang as the front (could have done double duty using the opposite end too), used green for St. Patty's day ones, red for Christmas and Valentines day, blue for Easter. You have to tell everyone to wash in cold water and line dry or they will be half the size and mess up the design. I use mostly line designs so if they shrink the design still looks pretty good. Did sets for my Mom and 2 aunts for Mother's day and a set for one friend and have another friend who lives over an hour away waiting patiently for her gift. Have done about 26 towels so far and have to get busy doing more for other friends, I have about 30 towels waiting to be made pretty! The friend who got her's already said, "Oh my God" a little louder with each towel she looked at! I posted a few on one pic and put it in projects but don't know how you would find it without searching. Anyhow, have fun! I need to embroider instead of chatting with you all, lol!

I usually buy the towels at Jo-Ann Fabrics, but only after each separate holiday and when they are at least 50% off. Yes, they do have either a embroidery or applique, but the other end is the perfect palette for the embroidery of your choice.
Do depending on the holiday, you can either face a turkey up or a Christmas design on the other end.

Walmart sells flour sack towel blanks, good low price. Big Lots sells lots of dish towels that you can embroider. They also carry the Flour Sack towels at Target, and you can purchase fabric baby diapers to make dish towels too (at Target). Use a running stitch design rather than a heavy bullet proof design. Emblibrary has some cute jacobean designs that are open and light stitch designs. Diapers are not as heavy as the flour sack fabric, but they are soft and absorbent. Diapers also make cute burp cloths when embroidered. Wash them first, they do shrink up in the wash, then press and do the embroidery on them with tear-away stabalizer.

try the dollar store, or dollar tree, they have some nice ones at times, if you do find some, buy all you need at once, they usually don't have the same ones everytime. good luck

Sorry the site's name is --burdisco -just getting old and mind wanders.(I call it my Dory factor)

theduchess by theduchess 15 Aug 2010

Flour sacks are nice but not as absorbent as huck towels.Keep one in the bottom of sink when washing fragile or expensive glassware.Prevents you breaking something but when you do Just pick up the towel and no little fragments to get cut with.

Can you explain what is huck towel (in the answer of theduchess), I have not found in my dictionnary. Do you use "metis" towel? "metis" is 50%cotton, 50%linnen, and it is very well for fragile glasses

I think they are 100% cotton. I'm going to give them a try.

I found all about blanks too expensive, but found my huck towels at www.burdico.com.Huck towels come in 3 colors, green(a pretty aqua),white, and a pretty blue. This are wholesale price at 50 for $32.50. These are new, lint-free and folded.Huck towels leave no lint on your glassware and are used by the restaurant industry. I have used huck towels for over 60 years. The embroidery turns out beautiful, and I have made beautiful hand towels, just by adding the embroidery.Great service and you can order larger amounts.

the site burdico says: in construction.
What is huck??

caroldann by caroldann 15 Aug 2010

Ok, something really new for me. I have never used a huck towel and now am really curious. Will try some from that site when they get up and going again. Thanks much!

theduchess by theduchess 15 Aug 2010

Chalk one up to being old and senile! Site for huck towels is - burdisco-
just type that in your search engine and there you are.
Huck towels are on the left under categories. These can be dressed up with fancy trims, or just embroidered. They starch up beautiful. You can also buy huck toweling by the yd at Hobby Lobby or JoAnne's but cost is a tad bit higher in the long run.
