I have now started using my camera or cell phone to take a picture of the image from the computer screen. It's a bit more effort to put the SD card (SanDisk) into the computer but if the design is something I really can use that is how I have been getting a image to put with the file. The image isn't always as clear as I would like but it is there to identify the file for those who don't have a program like Embird.

Saving photos using the PRT SC key: I'm pretty sure all computers have this key, it means "Print Screen", and on old computers that's exactly what it used to do, literally print whatever was on the screen to your printer. Now, it "prints" the screen to your clipboard memory. I then open my "Paint" program that came with the computer, "copy" the image to the file, crop and edit however I want, then save it wherever I want to. The Print Screen key may be hiding in plain sight on your keyboard. On my HP laptop, it's in the upper right, on the "insert" key, only in blue letters. Any of my blue letter keys are activated by the blue "fn" (function) key. It's like "shift", or "control", only a separate key.

Just FYI, there's a program called "Sew Iconz", which I think costs about $25, that will show you a picture of the design that's in your folder, just like your folders in "My Pictures" have the photo on them. It's available from Sands Computing, and probably the best $25 you'll ever spend if you don't have digitizing software to look at your designs with. Best of luck to you all, hugs, Marji

Thanks for all your input on my issue. Will be looking into getting the Sew Iconz. It is a reasonable price with less hassle.

Wow, I am glad I have PED-Basic, it automatically saves the pic and instructions. I'd be lost if I had to do too much. Smart cookies you girls are!

Well, if you have a Mac (Apple Computer), You can press:

Command + Shift + 3

and you can take a picture of the whole desktop. If you want to select a tiny portion of the desktop, like a picture, then you can press:

Command + Shift + 4

and you have to select the specific area Drag and resize the selection area, and take a picture.

I imagine that you can take screen shots with a PC. I googled it, here are the links.

I'm checking out your links. We cuties can be very resourceful and I am so excited to have been hooked up with fiber optic internet this week. Thanks...

If you are on Internet Explorer - you can go to just above the page you are one - you can see where it says PAGE - Left click that and go down to SAVE AS - then it usually will bring up a name - you can change it - if you don't like the name that they assigned it - then SAVE it where ever your file is - that you just downloaded - then they will be together and you will have the site and all the info about your file - that the website has.

I do download by right clicking and renaming if needed. The photo is for the sites that don't allow you to right click. They don't have that feature enabled like OPW (Oregon Patchworks)and there are several other web sites.

I use the PRTSC button on my keyboard (top right), then open up a word document and paste the page onto it (does that make sense?)Then I save the file into the same place as my embroidery file.

Must not have PRTSC button feature on my computer. Have had some images saved to my word document but the photo is when all else fails. Was thinking it might be how my computer is set up and will not allow an image to e copied. Thanks for your suggestions.

There are 2 other ways to download a image if it is not blocked. 1. Put mouse pointer on image, right click mouse then highlight (move pointer down to cover..) "Save Picture As" then left click too save, I save in the same folder as the design. 2. with mouse pointer on design right click mouse then highlight "Copy" then left click mouse then open a word program & left click on the page then right click highlight "Paste" then left click mouse. the image is on the page. to make the image smaller or larger place your mousr pointer on the image in your word Doc & left click on it, you will see dots or squares in each corner & on all edge centre points, place you mouse pointer on a corner point which will change to a stick with a pointer on each end, left click mouse and hold down drag either the picture out for larger or in to make smaller, release mouse button when you have the desired size. This may take a bit of practice. I also save in an Excel file.

I only do this for the images I can't right click on to save. Some sites don't enable that feature.

I create a pdf file with the picture - that way I have the picture and the site name/path all together. I use a freebie - CutePDF - from cnet.com (they verify all their files for viruses, etc.)

Are you doing that to every one? Do you right click and save the picture to place with your file folder? deanna

I do it to all my designs. Lately though, I have not saved every single picture of an alphabet. What I mean is that I used to save a picture for every single letter of the alphabet, but I am not doing that now. I just save a couple. But... I think that I might just start taking a screen shot of the page, and save them all as one picture. I had not thought of that before.

If your image is on your computer screen you should be able to take your mouse over the image and right click...a pop up menu should appear and if you look at the list there should be something that says "save picture as" you want to click on that and the next thing that will happen is a box will appear...look closely at the top of the box this will tell you where you are saving the image to..you can change where you save the image to another location in your computer..hope this helps..seems like too much work pulling a camera out and going through all that..I save images too...

Some sites don't allow any right clicking at all. I think they are afraid someone will steal the images and digitize them themselves or cause of copyright issues. But... Most of us, just want them for quick identification of the designs, whether purchased or free samples.
