Very little time to plan - came across this site with map where to buy fabric: http://bkkquilt.wordpress.com/sam...

can't wait to see the cotton for applique. Do I buy silk or not? Not much of a sewer, but scared to miss out. ANY TIPS PLEASE! Will not have time to answer everyone, but will DEFINITELY read your responses before I go! Thanks for your help!

OK Sewmom, but what do I do with it - except scarves? Sorry, by "tips", I mean tips where to buy what, i.e. pearls or what?

Now what kind of silly questions is that? LOL Of COURSE you buy silk! You never know when you will need it. Wish I could fit in your suitcase, but you would have to pay extra. hehehhee... Have a safe trip and a wonderful time...Happy Birthday!

Will do Thanks! Want to buy lots of things we do not get in Botswana/South Africa or things that are much cheaper there, i.e 100% cotton, colored velcro, etc! Will buy silk, maybe someone will tell me what to do with it!

Shantung is your heavier silk with nubby threads that runs through it. Very pretty. You can make purses from silk. It is easy to embroidery with and add beads to give it some extra bling. I'm sure you will be able to find something to do with it. If you get the thinner chiffon silk, they do make beautiful scarves too.have a safe and fun trip

No tips - I've got Thai silk when a friend went there and Chinese from a colleague of my daughter's who was sent to work there for a couple of months - beautiful, cheap, and me to scared to cut that material!!
Have a nice trip, enjoy the temperature - so much warmer than your winter. Have a happy birthday!
