In South Africa we have a saying - die kaap is nou weer hollands -translated the Cape is now Dutch meaning everything is going good. You deserved your win in the soccer game tonight.

Hi Edith - the kids were inspired at school and played games for team building representing each a country. The oldest happened to be in the Slovenia group and you should see her in her Slovenian T shirt. She wears it all the time. I don't know whether they are still in the game but she is a firm Slovenian supporter because of the school They could not have wished for a better admirer. I also say LOL when she comes out of her room with the little white T shirt with the Slovenian flag on it, watching any of the games.

Eleen Mariƫtta and I agree with you fully. Die Kaap is weer Hollands en ons hoop dit bly so tot die finaal. While watching the game the two of us were discussing embroidery and the men were cheering for the DUTCH. Now we are typing while the men are cheering with two Argentinians. They are hoping Ghana will win cause it will make it easier, they think, for them.

Hi Marthie for sure it will be interesting. I don't know a thing about soccer but the final few games I will defenitely sit in front of the TV. One tends not to watch something if you don't know it but must say the few games we watched made us all want to know more and here and there we can now see the reasons for what happened and I can start to see what the excitement is about the game. To further explain soccer to me is like a dad watching a netbal game for the first time - and this can be very confusing.

Eleen, okay, understand where you are coming from and can accept that. At least it was not the English against Holland. What would we be typing then ????

And now some flowers for you :-)

Perhaps we would have felt bad for every team like I did last night with the Ghana game. I felt like crying with every one who missed those penalty kicks. It must be so stressful to know millions of people are watching your every move. Mine for sure would also be a missed one.

May the best team win - I do not think that I am here to take sides ! It is just being hosted here and I am quite glad that any good team will better the others - that is the way that it should be, I think ? The Cape was (for a long time) English and we became what we are today so I do not think that South African heritage should come into soccer. We have moved forward. This is still an embroidery website ?? Surely this should be apolitical. Sorry if this upsets upsets anyone. Why should the best team not win - especially in the days to come ??

Hi Cheryl wasn't meant to be bad I don't watch many games and have just happen to watch this one and really enjoyed it as it was nailbiting. Must say I know too little about the rules to be able to see whether one is better than the other and also don't really have a favourite. Also the pun was not intended to bring in history. I just liked the way the commentator used it whenever their was a scoring moment. I have not for one moment thought of the English and whether they were in the Cape for a long time. Surely in the end the best team will win and I hope for every one it is their team. Point taken that this remain to be an embroidery site. I was a little scared to do the posting as it was not an embroidery related subject and everyone seems to be a bit uptight but then again I thought one should be able to share what you want to say without having a fear. Apologies to anybody who has taken the comments the wrong way or who was offended as this really was not the intention.

The Dutch people is very passionate when it comes to soccer it seems. I've watched all the publicity of the orange caravans and how they support their team travelling through our country. It actually is unbelievable. Maybe the other countries are just not as expresive as a group and that is why they get less attention.
