Hi Cuties! What is the best felt to use for embroidery projects like sucker covers, appliques, felt food, etc? 100% wool felt, acrylic felt or blended? What do you prefer?

I've never been offered a choice around here - I'm just pleased if I can get the colour I want! BTW What is a sucker cover please?

It is an in the hoop project. I know designsbysick.com has them and embroiderygarden.com has them. It's a fancy cover you put over a candy sucker to dress it up. Really cute for kids or adults.

Is that the same as a lollipop? In my 1950's UK childhoohd a sucker was and ice lolly. (Not really compatable with embroidery!)

bluedaisy, I am not sure that I ever check out what sort of felt that I have used - especially for the sucker covers (chances are you will never know if they are thrown away or kept) - but the other items - you might want a good quality - as it might have to be washed and used over and over.

Isn't it sad that someone would throw it out. But you are right...you never know!

I get mine by the yard at JoAnns and I think it is acrylic. Last Christmas It stitched out my 200 stockings from Shirlene just perfect!!! Hugs, Judy

For sucker covers I use the cheap acrylic squares you can get for 25 cents apiece. If it's something else that you want to spend time on & it last I buy a better grade of acrylic felt by the yd at fabric store. *

I made coasters last Christmas and used acrylic felt. It handled and stitched easily and the embroidery looked good, too.

I made Shirlene's stockings for Christmas and the acrylic felt turned out much nicer than the wool felt stitched out better too.

If it is something that is to be washed - use the wool felt, if not, then I go for the acrylic. I thruthfully have not seen the blended here, but then, neither do I look much for felt. In using the wool felt, make sure that it is washed prior to your work on it - just in case it might shrink.
