Teri gave you good information. I use batiste as the fabric, and the rolled hem edging. Here is a pic of somethig that I did for my husband's family for his uncle's funeral several years ago.
Thank you for asking this question, and also to those who answer. I, too, have the Janome MC 11000 and am eager to learn more about my machine. As I always say about Cute and Cuties this is a great site and there is an encyclopaedia of info just for the asking. So thank you all once more.
Hello Elizabeth. When I have made handkerchiefs in the past, I used a very soft cotton fabric similar to Simplicities broad cloth. You definitely want a higher quality material ensuring softness to the touch. As for what stitches I used, (if you're referring to the hemming?), you can use a rolled hem foot on your Janome or if you have a serger, do a rolled hem (my favorite choice). If you're asking about design stitches, make sure it's not too big or too dense. Corner designs are nice or maybe redwork.
Hope this helps. teri
ttt. I would also like to know AND I suppose it should not be a too dense design - therefore, do you recommend the same colour thread on top and bobbin?
Yes, I would make the color of the bobbin the same as the top. Also, use a water soluable stabilizer.
