area. But it has been difficult. I just learned that Gail knows little about embroidery. I introduced her to the Cute site and it has opened her eyes. Please pray for Gail and for me. We both are trying hard to show what can be done with thread, fabric and designs. I am making samples for her to display, but I want to excite them not bore them. Any advice and all prayers will be appreciated. Thanks

Really late with responding. However, if you still check responsed--- I agree with Joann. Combine the embroidery with the quilting. I do a lot of quilts for Project Linus with embroidered squares. That give a wide range of things that can be done!

All I had to do was watch that machine sit there on the table and do all the work for me...I was hooked. A demo of a machine sewing would go a long way.

I was in the shop the other day, embroidering on one of the machines. Not 1 person came over to see what I was doing. Go figure!

Keep on trying. How odd that no one came to look, like rwalden I was hooked from the forst time I saw a embroidery machine in action

Good luck on your adventure. People can't help but fall in love with embroidery once they see how pretty and special things can look. God bless, Judy *4U and Gail.

Best of luck, maybe she could host an open house or something like that, we have a local group that meets and sews here it is through the county extension, check with them and see if there is something like that around the area and invite them to come see what she has and who knows it just might start something big for business. maybe you could get with one of the quilt groups and see if they would let you show some of your work. Or ask them to come check out the shop and goods and do a demo of what can be done with the embroidery. (Serve them coffee and a piece of cake.) Someone will get fired up as I often say. I have a friend that had not sewn in several years, once she saw what an embroidery machine can do she went and bought one.

This what I am trying to do. But I realize that I need to be patient. And I need to make something new evey week for Gail to display. I told Gail that she needs to encourage everyone to handle the items. I know I love to look and touch. I would rather make something a 2nd time because the 1st wore out.

Make FSL ornaments for the Christmas tree in her shop. Once they see all the things they can do, they will want an embroidery machine.

Good luck to you both. I didn't realize for a long time what a embroidery machine could do. I watched a demo on HSN or QVC and had to have it. I was fortunate that a friend always updates her machines and I was able to buy her older one (Baby Lock Ellageo). I imagine that cost of a machine is going to be a factor.

I just found out that there is plenty of money here. It is a matter of exposing them to what they can do with a machine.

Oh my goodness - you are both in for some big adjustments - but once you two learn - then you share what you learned - with pictures and emails and also - when they see the items that can be made and all the fun that can be had - they will come along - who wouldn't - this is a lovely and very creative craft - make sure you have loads of sites - that you can share with them - that they can go to, as well. Have fun.

Thanks. I have almost 4 years invested in this hobby with lots of sites. I check the freebies everyday, but have most of them already. I no longer register on anysites because I have no more time I am willing to invest. I was hooked the fist time I saw a sewing/embroidery machine running. But this area is so invested into quilting that they do not see a need to expand. That is why I am making samples for Gail to display and I will be running her machines as I can.

Maybe you could combine the embroidery with quilting. There are certainly a lot of quilt embroidery designs. Good luck making this work in my home state!

joann13100 by joann13100 06 Jun 2010

I agree---make a pieced quilt where the center of each block is embroidered. That will get them hooked!

Thanks. I needed that reminder. I am aware that Gail has only so much money in the till, so I want it all right away. Patience is the word to remember.

Thanks. This is quite a stretch for me. I am used to sitting at the feet of my mentors and learning, not trying to reach people who see no benefit to machine embroidery.
