This is my Mom on her 87th birthday, last week, when we celebrated with her.

Not a trace of the hardship and difficult years she endured, throughout childhood and even when we grew up...

Tomorrow, like any other day, she will wake up alone, make herself a cup of tea, make her own bed, be unbelievably up-beat and chirpy when her children phone. She will listen to the radio, continue knitting her own jersey, watch TV and hope someone will drop off the weekly free local news paper. Later on she will cook her own meal and do the dishes. On Sunday she will watch a church service and perhaps even sing along (even though nobody can hear) At around 7:30 pm she will activate the alarm, say her prayer and go to bed. If she can not fall asleep, she will take one panado - only 1!

Once a week my sister picks her up to do her weekly grocery shopping and go to the library. Sometimes, maybe once a week, a nearby neighbour will come for a quick visit.

Physically still healthy (despite a hip replacement), mentally sharp, emotionally strong, always positive, caring, grateful, a believer...AMAZING!

Suzette, dear - I do hear what you are saying - my dear Mother - Miss Loretta had years like this - then things changed and she started having some health issues and then she was on Hospice and finally I decided that she needed something more in her life - and someone to watch out for her daily and I did in fact place her in a fine Skilled Nursing Facility - she came off of Hospice and lived a life of craftiing and having daily fun with others in the similair shape and condition - when she passed away - she was alonne - except for the fine staff members that were with her - as I was five blocks away with my husband, having just had a stroke and brain surgery. Growing old isn't for sissies. Your mother is lovely and you surely love her and continue to do so - each and every day. My Mother is with God and she whispers to Him daily - to care for us and help guide us throughout our day and keep us strong to do the things that He would have us do - to be the people that He would want us to be. I am so grateful that she can do this for us - at this time - as we surely need this sort of help. Love, Shirlene

What a lovely lady your mother is Suzette. She looks as if a lovely light shines from her. Both my parents are now in their late eighties, and I am still able to have them living at home here with us. Cherish the fact that they are still with us.
Hugs and God bless.

Your mom looks fantastic and sounds so very much like our mom, a going concern until she passed away at 96 last year. Hopefully your mom will live for another good many years...Cherish her Suzette...Hugs Glenda x0x0x0x

Suzette jou ma is pragtig!!! Dis jammer dat ou mensies so alleen is. I am taking my mom(78 years old and she only weighs 40kg)) down to Cape Town end of May for 2 months. Although it is the rainy season we will do anything to keep to her warm. Luckily theres a lot of fire places in the house.

Suzette, she is gorgeous on the outside and from your description on the inside, too. Thank her for me for being such an inspiration. I hope I grow-up to be that spirited.

Thank you Deanna, Proud yes, but I feel so sorry for her - all other family and friends passed away, must be a very lonely life. She's so brave..
