I made a test coaster last week, also saw the different Modge Podge containers in the "Genuine Heritage" brand. Could not decide if I should buy "matt" or "gloss", but ended up buying another one that said "fabric sealer", "dries to a clear flexible plastic coat". Applied 2 coats, but then saw it takes away the "shine" of the embroidery.

It now looks dull - the black fabric looks as if it had been washed a couple of times and the white thread is not that bright anymore.

Maybe I will buy the "gloss" and try that??...

I think you will have to read each individual label and choose according to your project and desired finish. Have no doubt though that each one will do the job you purchase it for.
Just make sure, before you close the lid, you wipe off any spills and around the rim with a damp cloth, so that the lid won't seal itself shut. Then close the lid tightly so that no air can penetrate and form a skin on top.

If I have a large job to do I actually keep putting the lid on top of the jar while I am working so that the top layer (in the jar) doesn't dry out and form a skin. I suppose I could always decant some into a smaller container to use, but then I wouldn't want to tip the leftover back into the main jar and I hate waste. LOL!!!

Mod ppodge reminds me of the Fabric Glaze that Hobbytex used to sell. I love using it.

Pssst I have always used the classic because I like a Matte finish. As Bev said b sure it is totally dry between layers. I also liked doing my layers so they alternated in direction. I would do 1st layer up 7 down, 2nd layer across, 3rd layer back to up & down. What you used would depend on what you were doing. Some MOd Podge are for different kinds of mediums. Fabric, paper, plaster, plastic & wood are what I have used it on. *

I just use the classic gloss but I think the shimmer would be pretty. I will have the check them out the next time I am in the craft store. Make sure you use several coats and allow drying time in between.
