Just wondering what type of thread i should use for a FSL Bowl? Also, I found the blank bowl by cutie, are there other free bowl patterns? I am new to embroidery, but VERY intrigued by FSL.thanks

Once you start on FSL you will be hooked!lol Use matching good quality embroidery thread in both your bobbin and upper treads and water soluable film in the hoop. If you want a couple of free designs that stitch out beautifully Cute has some and also check out the designs by Sue Box, you'll love them! Ruth

Thanks for those links - I've already tried the one from Stitchery Mall (There is a picture somewhere in projects)
So far I've been doing FSL with bobbin thread above and below.

Here's another one for you - I have done the doily, not the bowl, but this is very pretty.

I have found that your FSL base needs to be very thick/dense to hold pictures on it. After you have done a few you will see what I mean. Some freebies we collect are not tested so you will have a bad result.
When I did a bunch of bookmarks I found a few dense shapes that I liked and I labeled them "base" or "blank" even though they had designs on them already. I add my own initials or words to the design but I skip whatever was already on it to make it my own. On my software I am able to change the order of stitching but not always able to remove parts so I move the pre-existing words or design to the end of the colors to be stitched then I just stop the design when I get to them. I hope that makes sense.

You got good response regarding your threads - hopefully I can help with FSL Bowls - freebies, of course. - if I can think of others, I will get back with you. Good luck with these.

definitely going to try that, although shaping scares me a bit with that one ;) and i wonder if my hoop will be big enough
thank you

Definitely use embroidery thread. I have found that rayon tends to be softer, however the results from poly is equally as nice.

Rule of thumb: Use the same color in the bobbin thread as top. I cheat however on the 6 needle and use white in the bobbin on my doilies. I don't want to have to change the bobbin thread and you can't tell unless you flip it over. A bowl however needs to have both sides done with the same color.

Have fun!

Hi I use the embroidery thread in the bobbin and the top. I tried serger thread but there was too much lint from it on and in my machine and it didn't have the same sheen as embroidery thread. Now I just use the embroidery thread . It gives a much better look in the end . I love the FSL and cutwork too. Suzanne

I use my regular embroidery thread, I know others have used serger thread, but I haven't tried it yet. As for patterns on cute I am not sure how many patterns are on here free to do bowls, I do know there are many free FSL patterns for different things from ornaments to key chain decorations. I'm sure someone will come along and tell you of many more. I have done angels. I too love the look of FSL. Sara
Welcome to Cute!!!
