In the past I have tryed many ways to shell boiled eggs without losing most of the egg. Haha!! I had a friend tell me that after the eggs boil, just run enough cold water over them to cool them enough to handle safely. Then crack and peel them. It works great!! No more struggling to peel and lose part of the eggs. Hope this is help to some of you for Easter.

I figured out the best way... is to make more than you need, then the ones you goober up can be made into potato salads and egg sandwhiches for later.....yep nor more guessing for me...I have full meals every time I boil eggs..hehehe deanna

If you use eggs that are a few days old, they also peel better. Apparently the litle membrane between the egg and the shell loosens up. Hope this helps too.
Hugs and God bless.

Mom and I did the cold water thing, sometimes it worked, sometimes Mom got so frustrated trying to peel those dagnabbed eggs we ended up with egg salad, because she just squashed them in her fist, hee hee hee. You're right about the older eggs, though, they do peel easier. Ever notice that when you color eggs for Easter, they never seem hard to peel after they're colored? I think coloring eggs makes them easier to peel, hee hee hee. So, who's going to figure out how to embroider eggs? Hugs, Marji

That's funny.

Marji, you make me laugh. I do relate to trying to peel the darn things myself. You are right they do seem to peel easier after they are colored. Speaking of embroidery eggs, I remember in the past Shirlene did some FSL that she used over the eggs. It was beautiful. H&*

After the egg has cooled I crack the shell and then after taking a small amount of shell off, use a teaspoon. push it inot the open part of the shell and scrap it around the egg. pops out beautifully

Fresh eggs are more likely to tear than an egg that is a week old. Place eggs in saucepan, cover with water, bring to a boil, cover and remove from heat and let stand for 13 minutes, cool eggs with cold water....this method will prevent yolks from becoming grey as the eggs will not be over cooked.

All of these are interesting, some I already knew & do others I didn't. I've been knowing this cold water trick all my life since being raised on a farm where we got around 500 chicks at a time. My job, gathering eggs. I hate setting hens!! *

Living in the Texas Panhandle, eggs are ridiculously hard to peel! I was told to bring the water to a boil, place lid on tightly and turn off the heat. Do not lift lid for 20 minutes. It works every time for me. Judy.

Ok, Gramsbear, why are eggs harder to peel in Texas? I'm missing something, hee hee hee. I know everything's bigger in Texas, but..... Hugs, Marji

Another thing that cold water does for the egg. You know how sometimes you cut the hard boiled egg open and the yoke is grey,,, well the cold water stops that from happening. They are a beautiful yellow.

Another tip--put some vinegar in the water before boiling--doesn't smell very good, but neither do hard boiled eggs :)
