Cissie, enjoy doing out your sewing room.
You can never have to much storage space, drawers on wheels, shelves, for storage see through containers are the best or lables.Desk space for machine and then place to work on( I have an L shape desk space) and Computer stand, against the other wall with cupboards and shelves, as well. Peg board on one wall to the right of were my machines stand. With a small set of drawers (plastic like men whould use for storage in there garage) also to the right in the corner, were I store all my needles, machine feet, just above that I have a paper towel holder with some ribbons on hand. You must have a chair on wheels as well.

Enjoy

Hugs Yvonne

storage containers or drawers are a big help. i have thread spool stands that hold my threads, which get very dusty over little periods of time. so i brought spool holder containers with lids. best investment, no dusty threads. lots of containers clear all labelled with whats in what.
really depends on how you are setting it up and what kind of equipment your working with?

lucky you enjoy. I had to wait until a kid grew up and left. Then she came back left again and is now back but I got in there before she got back now she is in the basement. Not giving up that space for anything. Prime relestate you know. LOL

I just have to say that I'm Jealous! I have to use my bedroom as my sewing room. I have gotten to be really good at utalizing my limited space, and I actually have a LOT of craft supplies easily accessable but mostly hidden. I use a lot of the plastic 3 drawer storage chests that you can get at Wal Mart, for storing my fabrics and such. They also have tables that are about 3 feet long and 18 inches wide (with folding legs like a card table). Two of the storage chests will fit underneath the tables. Then I used a single bed sheet to cover the tables and hide the storage chests. On top of the tables I have my Sewing machine, serger, embroidery machine, and all my thread racks. It may not be your idea of hte perfect sewing room, but it sure does allow you to store a lot of stuff!

Great! I may be losing mine if my son moves back in. I'm okay with that...have to go back to where it had been or out into the shop with the longarm. When you get done, you can come over and help me organize... ;) All cuties are welcome...I need help anyhow.

I've just tidied up my overhead cupboards trying to find more room at the same time .I found that clear plastic boxes with lids are great because you can see whats in them without giong to the trouble of opening them up they keep the dust out & if you have to buy them ,you can pick them up for $2 - $3 each depending on size. You may have suitable boxes in the kitchen cupboards that are not being used .Also some chocolates come in clear (ferro roches here very useful size) boxes. Small one are best ,two can be stacked on top of each other large ones can become too heavy when full especially if lifted down from high up . If storing fabric wash & iron it before putting it away ,saves time later.

If and when I get a little more room I would have a long table or counter (straight or at a corner) that has room for my sewing machine and my serger. I would have a rolling chair that I could use to easily maneuver between the machines. You could have an ironing board at a 3rd side at a low level then you could turn around in your chair to do quick presses. Right now I have a drawer under my machine counter. I really like it there to hold my most used tools, scissors, ripper, pins, measuring tape, etc.
Take a look at this link with a lot of Cutie sewing rooms.

Enjoy your new room, I am lucky I do have a sewing room which ufortunatly needs a good sort out and tidy at the moment. Come the Easter holidays and it will get sorted. You will end up having fun deciding what goes where, things just find homes for themselves where its convenient for you.

After 35 years of bringing out my sewing machine every day to the kitchen table, and then putting it back again, I was able to get my own sewing/office room. Here are a few things I did for organizing and storage. I put my rolls of stabilizer in tall kitchen trash containers. Those went into the closet. You can fit quite a few there standing on end. I put all my thread in a dresser with my embroidery machine on top. The thread is in the drawers, along with my needles, snips, flash drives, etc. I like being able to check on my embroidery in a standing position and not have to bend over to change the thread. My serger thread I put in an empty drawer of my filing cabinet where I keep my patterns. I put a piece of peg board in the closet and hang my rulers, large scissors, and a variety of other neat tools. I got a couple of those little drawer units at a hardware store for storing nails and screws, I put buttons, sewing machine feet, hook and eyes and whatever else fits into those cute little drawers. I love my room and spend most of my time there now. Have fun setting yours up
