"Exception, access violation..." Got this message yesterday afternoon on new laptop, version 5 dongle and can not open any design. Problem not fixed, but thought I will use old laptop and version 4 dongle as I did last night. Surprise! Same message! Last night on shutting down old laptop, I had 11 updates. Do you get to the same conclusion? DH will have to look tonight!

yes, I have had this happen. Go to your on line Manuel. I actually printed mine out. Look under appendix A: troubleshooting. The heading is "Resolving Exception Access Violation errors. Follow the instructions and you can get rid of it. The first time it happened to me ,I was a nervous wreck because you have to go into the C drive. the second time it happened I felt more confident. It is caused by a corrupt design file or a corrupt program file. You also need to go on line to www.embroideryonline.com and download the up date for Ver 5. I think it is called BESV5ow. you will know if you got it installed because your Bernina butterfly will change to a Aladdin's lamp down on the bottom when bernina is running. Let me know if you have trouble and I will try to help. Kay

katydid- I must be blind. I, too, printed the on line manual but my Appendix A has short cuts (no troubleshooting info). And, I am unable to find the site on the link you gave to update my Version 5 software. Why is this such a common problem??? B

Suzette het jy probeer om die hele program weer oor te laai. Dit is die advies van Dick . Sterkte Marie

If your PC or lap top works fine NEVER do an update. Dont mess with something that works. Advice I got from brother in law who is a Microsoft expert.
If Microsoft updates automatically, change it. It will always ask you if you want to update. Just say NO

Thanks Marthie, We do however choose to update automatically, although it does give problems from time to time! (Suckers for punishment?!) Old habits die hard!

Had the same problem last yr. but not with BerninaSW. Microsoft updates were definitely my problem & they had to dump my computer & re do everything. *

Problem solved - suspicion confirmed! Uninstalled and re-installed Bernina software on both laptops! I am surprised that there aren't other Cuties experiencing the same with Bernina software - maybe they are busy D/L and will discover later! Suzette

I get this all the time. Was thinking I was just too fast and confused my softwear, lol. your install disk has a repair on it so you do not have to uninstall and reinstall much easier.

Try restore back to a time before the updates on one of the computers. If the problem dissapears you know for sure where the problem is.

I for one know if you don't get your Microsoft updates it can play bad for your computer and software for embroidery. I could not get on cute and it would not pull up correctly for a solid week it was because of virsus and not getting my updates which let the virsus get through and I had Norton and it was updated and still microsoft was not so it let them get through. So get your updates and ask hubby to install malware bytes it is free to get rid of anything that might have gotten on your computer and corrupted it. Believe me I thought I was crazy cause it was only the cute sites that gave me a real problem but once i got the malware bytes and ran it and did the updates my computer has been fine. This is just a suggestion. Hope it gets fixed soon. Sara

Thanks Sara, I will ask him! As far as the new laptop is concerned, it is linked to internet from 06:30am to 9:30pm, so all the updates get downloaded automatically and immediately. I suspect Microsoft updates installed something that prevents my dongle from operating normally.
